A fuel injection device for an automotive internal combustion engine is disclosed, which comprises two distinct acceleration state determining means, i.e., a rapid and a slow acceleration state judgement means, for determining the amount of the asynchronous augmentation of fuel. The rapid acceleration state judgement detects the rapid acceleration state by comparing with a first threshold level the increment of the throttle opening degree over each period of an A/D conversion timing signal; the slow acceleration judgement means, on the other hand, detects the slow acceleration state by comparing with a second threshold level the increment of, for example, the throttle opening degree signal over, for example, two successive periods of the same A/D conversion time signal. When the rapid acceleration state is detected, an asynchronous augmentation of fuel for the rapid acceleration is effected. On the other hand, an asynchronous augmentation of fuel for the slow acceleration is effected only if: (1) the rapid acceleration state is not detected, and (2) the slow acceleration state is detected, over the two successive periods of the timing signal.

An apparatus for controlling an engine speed through intermittent control of a driving time and a halt time for an engine-speed adjusting actuator (12) in accordance with the output signal of a difference detecting circuit (6) corresponding to the difference between the outputs of a desired speed computing circuit (5) and an actual speed computing circuit (4). The feature of the invention resides particularly in determining the actuator halt time in proportion to the desired quantity of control for the actuator (12) or the engine operation parameter without limiting the said time to any fixed length, hence eliminating overshoot of the engine speed in the control and ensuring satisfactory apparatus capabilities with a short halt time and enhanced response characteristic.

A control apparatus for a motor vehicle which can be quickly unit tested during manufacture. Normally, the control apparatus processes signals from various operating condition sensors and applies them to determine the values of control signals to respective controlled elements, wherein there is a delay between the starting of the engine and the use of one of the sensors, namely, the exhaust gas O.sub.2 sensor in determining the value of the respective control signal. To test the apparatus, signals simulating the outputs of at least one of the sensors are set to states which are improbable in acutal operation. Upon detecting such a condition, the control apparatus removes the delay from the starting of the engine and immediately applies all output signals from the sensors to determine their respective control signals.
