摘要: Manganese oxide nanoparticles with favorable properties for multi-modal imaging in medical and non-medical imaging applications are provided. The particles are useful for multi-modal magnetic resonance imaging and fluorescence imaging. The particles are useful as T1 contrast agents in magnetic resonance imaging. The favorable properties of the manganese oxide nanoparticles also make them useful as tracers for subsurface formation characterization. One embodiment provides a process which includes the steps of injecting nanoparticles into a discrete subterranean region, and detecting fluorescence and/or magnetic data of the one or more nanoparticles in a produced fluid which includes the injected fluid and a formation fluid from the subterranean region.
