    Abstract: A system for controlling a synchronous motor drive may be configured to receive a command voltage signal and to identify, in the synchronous motor drive, a resistance imbalance signature from the command voltage signal. The system may determine, based on the resistance imbalance signature, respective phase resistances that correspond to phases of a synchronous motor of the synchronous motor drive. Each respective phase resistance may include a phase transistor resistance and a phase winding resistance. The system may identify, based on the phase resistances and an estimated average resistance between the phases of the synchronous motor, one or more phases of the synchronous motor that correspond to one or more phase resistances representing a resistance imbalance.

    Abstract: An interior permanent magnet synchronous machine includes a stator having electromagnetic windings and a rotor that is disposed concentric with the stator. The rotor has a plurality of rotor segments that include a first rotor segment and a second rotor segment. The first rotor segment is arranged to receive a first magnet set having first magnets that are disposed at a first pole-arc angle relative to each other. The second rotor segment is axially stacked relative to the first rotor segment along a rotor axis. The second rotor segment is arranged to receive a second magnet set having second magnets that are disposed at a second pole-arc angle relative to each other. The second pole-arc angle is different than the first pole-arc angle.

    Abstract: An interior permanent magnet motor assembly including a stator and a rotor is provided. The stator includes electromagnetic windings. The rotor is disposed concentrically with the stator about a rotor axis and the rotor has a plurality of rotor segments. The plurality of rotor segments may include a first rotor segment and a second rotor segment. The first rotor segment may have first pockets being arranged to receive at least a first magnet of a first magnet set according to a first rotor topology.
