    Abstract: A method for performing hysteresis shaping in a steer-by-wire (SbW) steering system of a vehicle includes determining a desired hysteresis associated with rotating a handwheel of the vehicle, determining, based on the desired hysteresis, whether to perform hysteresis subtraction or perform hysteresis addition, in response to a determination to perform hysteresis subtraction, calculating a hysteresis subtraction value, modifying an estimated rack load based on the hysteresis subtraction value, and generating a reference torque based on the estimated rack load as modified based on the hysteresis subtraction value, in response to a determination to perform hysteresis addition, calculating a hysteresis addition value and generating the reference torque based on hysteresis addition value, and controlling the handwheel based on the reference torque.

    Abstract: A constant velocity joint assembly includes an outer joint member defining a first longitudinal axis and including a closed end, an open end, a first set of outer tracks extending at least partially between the closed end and the open end, and a second set of outer tracks extending at least partially between the closed end and the open end. The assembly also includes an inner joint member defining a second longitudinal axis coaxial with the first longitudinal axis and including a first set of inner tracks and a second set of inner tracks, the inner joint including an attachment feature to receive a driveshaft. A path followed by the center of a ball in the first set of tracks is constrained by an outer race track path and an inner race track path, the outer race track path being a piecewise continuous function.

    Abstract: A constant velocity joint includes an inner race having inner ball tracks extending between opposite inner race sides and an outer race having outer ball tracks extending between opposite outer race sides.     Abstract: A method for passive damping in a steer-by-wire handwheel actuator includes selecting a number of windings for a motor of a handwheel actuator; shorting a subset of windings of the number of windings, each winding of the subset of windings being disposed at an obtuse angle from each other winding of the subset of windings; determining a resistance value for the motor; selectively adjusting the resistance value based on a number of windings associated with the subset of windings; and providing, in series with the subset of windings, at least one metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) configured to: vary the resistance associated with the subset of windings based on a vehicle speed; and tune a damping characteristic associated with the handwheel actuator.
