Abstract:
A method of making a shaft abutment screw, especially for axial engagement with an armature shaft of an electric motor, includes the following steps:(a) pressing out a flat mild steel blank, (b) subjecting the blank to a drawing operation so as to form a hollow component comprising a generally flat radial base wall and a generally cylindrical skirt portion extending from the base wall and describing a screw driving socket within it, (c) machining a screw thread on the outside of the skirt portion, and then (d) nitriding the component. A shaft abutment screw having a flat base portion joined to an externally threaded cylindrical skirt portion, within which a hexagonal screw driving socket is formed, is also described per se. The invention is applicable especially to motorised reduction gear units for driving motor vehicle screen wipers for windshields and rear windows.
Abstract:
A motorized reduction gear unit for any purpose having a crank and connecting rod mechanism incorporated in it, but especially for use as a vehicle screen wiper drive unit, comprises a hollow casing having a cover plate, with, within the hollow interior of the casing, a toothed wheel which is rotatable about an axis. The toothed wheel carries a gudgeon pin parallel to the axis of rotation of the toothed wheel but eccentric with respect to the latter. The pin drives a crank and connecting rod system in which the crank and connecting rod are articulated together about a pivot pin, so that continuous rotary motion of the toothed wheel is converted thereby into alternating rotary motion of an output shaft. It further includes a peripheral gasket disposed between the upper edge of the casing and the cover plate, together with a friction plate element in the form of a thickened friction portion disposed fixedly on the inner surface of the cover plate facing towards the casing. The peripheral gasket and the friction plate element together constitute a monobloc component.
Abstract:
A screen washing apparatus, especially for a glass surface of a motor vehicle, in which a shaft is formed with a through duct and is carried by the casing of a motorized reduction gear unit. The reduction gear unit drives the screen wiper and imparts to the shaft an alternating rotary motion through a drive element. An end portion of the shaft penetrates sealingly into a bore that is formed in a tubular connector. The tubular connector joins the apparatus to a flexible pipe leading from a screen washing liquid supply circuit. The tubular connector and the end portion of the shaft are coupled together in rotation by a mating coupling, and the shaft has, at its end penetrating into the tubular connector, a knurled surface and a spherical portion, the spherical portion deforming the bore of the tubular connector radially outwardly.
