摘要: A technique for dynamic spectrum sharing includes identifying (705) a plurality of radio nodes (115, 120), measuring (710) a local signal value (SV) at each radio node (110, 200), and determining (715) a transmit decision. Each radio node can measure a local signal value (SV) of a protected transmission and the radio nodes are within a uniform SV region of the protected transmission. The transmit decision is determined for at least one of the plurality of radio nodes based on the SV of each radio node in the plurality of radio nodes and at least one threshold value that is related to statistical characteristics of the protected transmission at an interference boundary (105) of the protected transmission and a desired probability of non-interference with the protected transmission at the interference boundary.

摘要: A DTV signal detector detects DTV signals received by a receiver on a selected DTV channel in a Digital Television System. The DTV detector includes a first DTV signal detector that detects a first characteristic of the received DTV signals, and a second DTV signal detector that detects at least a second characteristic of the received DTV signals. A controller responds to the first DTV signal detector and the second DTV signal detector to control a selection of the DTV channel being selected by the receiver. The receiver can be synthesized to select from more than one DTV channel.

摘要: A communication system employs a HARQ-type retransmission scheme. Bits (701) received on a first transmission are stored and combined with the bits received on later transmissions thereby increasing the likelihood of a correct decoding on later transmissions. Similarly the bits received on the second or later transmissions are stored for combining with subsequent received bits. Specific information needed at the receiver is identified and requested from the transmitter. More particularly, information that is retransmitted in a second or later transmission in the HARQ scheme is determined from a reliability of individual constituent bits in the mother codeword or from an overall reliability of the received codeword. Based on these reliability metrics, the most unreliable set of the constituent bits are requested or, in the alternative, a specific number of constituent bits is requested.

摘要: A communication system is designed that reduces co-channel interference when heterogeneous users are sharing spectrum. The system design enables a plurality of pairs of users to communicate their channel utilization time periods by using the durations and start or stop times of certain transmissions to signal the start times and durations of later transmissions. Other system users using possibly different communications protocols and different modulation technologies can measure the durations of received transmissions and to infer channel usage based on these durations.

摘要: This invention is directed toward apparatus and methods for gathering liquid samples from a reservoir of liquid using a submersible pump and subsequently retrieving the samples for analysis. The invention is more specifically directed toward the gathering and preparing of water samples for analysis for tritium content, where the samples are collected from underground formations penetrated by a borehole or collected at varying depths in surface canals and the like. The samples are subsequently transferred to the surface of the earth for analysis. The submersible pump is operated by means of a surface valving system and solenoid systems mounted on the submersible pump. The pump inlet valve is set to open or "crack" at a predetermine pressure, however the pump is not filled until a vacuum is applied to the pump. After filling, the pump is purged thereby transporting the sampled liquid to the surface by applying pressure. Vacuum and pressure are supplied to the submerged pump by means of a surface vacuum/compressor system. Electrical valves are mounted on the submersible pump.

摘要: A process for separating a blend of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids or saturated and unsaturated fatty acid alky esters into a first fraction enriched with the saturated fatty acids or saturated fatty acid alkyl esters and a second fraction enriched with unsaturated fatty acids or unsaturated fatty acid alkyl esters. When separating fatty acids, the process includes the steps of (a) saponifying a blend of long chain saturated and unsaturated fatty acids to form free fatty acids, (b) complexing the free fatty acids with urea, and (c) separating the urea complexed free fatty acids into a first fraction enriched with saturated free fatty acids and a second fraction enriched with unsaturated free fatty acids. When separating fatty acid alkyl esters, the process includes the steps of (i) complexing the fatty acid alkyl esters with urea, and (ii) separating the urea-complexed fatty acid alkly esters into a first fraction enriched with saturated fatty acid alkyl esters and a second fraction enriched with unsaturated fatty acid alkyl esters.

摘要: This invention is directed toward the detection fluid infiltration into an underground pipe system, and more particularly is directed toward the qualitative and quantitative detection of liquid leaks into, and out of, underground sewer systems. The invention is particularly suited for detecting the infiltration of ground water into sewer systems such that the leaks can be precisely located as a precursor to time and cost efficient repairs. Fluid properties are measured with a probe at station locations which are preferably manholes. Any leaks in the system are first determined to a geographic location spanning two adjacent manholes. The locations of the leaks are further define to a very high geographic resolution by floating the probe from the upstream manhole toward the downstream manhole while continuously recording fluid property measurements at the surface of the earth. Results are preferably presented in the form of a survey map.

摘要: The present disclosure is directed to a sample collecting and storing apparatus. A metal cabinet encloses a hand operated, chain driven pump connected serially with inlet and outlet lines providing a closed loop flow with a large tank to be sampled. The pump connects serially with a three port, two position valve mechanism defining a bypass. Another port of the valve serially connects with an industry standard fitting which in turn connects with the head of a syringe positioning a needle tip in alignment with the valve. A suitable mounting bracket supports the valve and associated syringe in conjunction with a second syringe preferably bent in a 90.degree. angle and having fittings for the syringe. This defines a second syringe tip so that two syringe needles insert through a septum into a sample receiving container. A method of operation is also set forth.

摘要: A method and apparatus for signal detection is provided herein. During operation logic circuitry will determine if a de-sensing signal exists within any received signal and, if a de-sensing signal exists, then it will be assumed that a radar pattern exists where the de-sensing signal exists within the signal. Any received signal pattern is then correlated to known radar transmission pattern in order to determine whether or not a radar transmission pattern was received. If a known transmission pattern was received then logic circuitry will prevent further transmission.
