    摘要: A sector servo, zone bit recording disk drive includes a sector architecture in which the recording head locates and identifies data sectors without using data ID fields, but instead using information obtained from electronic storage and from servo sectors which need not be adjacent to the data sectors. The tracks contain servo information and data, but not data sector ID information. The tracks in each zone are circumferentially divided into segments. Included in each segment is a number of data regions separated from one another by servo sectors. The data regions may contain partial data sectors and complete data sectors. The format information provided to identify and locate data sectors, including ones whose region locations are not adjacent to servo sectors, includes an entry for each region in the section. Each entry includes the lengths of the first and last data sections in the region, whether the sectors represented by those sections are split between two regions, the total number of data sectors in the region, and the sector number of the first data sector in the region. The information provided in the servo sectors consists of a servo sector number or other indicia which enables the disk drive to determine the position of the recording head and begin reading or writing immediately upon settling on-track and without incurring a latency penalty.

    摘要: A detector structure for contiguous-disk bubble devices has a non-ionimplanted elongated bar, a hairpin conductor and a thin-film magneto-resistive element. The elongated bar is positioned in spaced relation to a large period element at the end of a propagation loop. The elongated bar extends both above and below the large period element and prevents the bubble from passing around the element. The hairpin conductor is positioned over the edge of the bar that faces the end period element. The magneto-resistive element is positioned parallel to and at the center of the hairpin conductor.

    摘要: A method for longitudinal position (LPOS) detection in a magnetic tape storage system for storing data upon linear tape open (LTO) magnetic storage tape, which data includes odd and even 36-bit LPOS words with error correcting ability. The method includes first encoding positional information onto the tape within the 36-bit LPOS words using each LPOS word's 8-bit sync mark field, and six of each LPOS word's 4-bit symbol fields, wherein 6 of 24 total bits comprise the encoded 8-bit sync mark field: Sy, and six 4-bit symbol fields are utilized as parity bits. The magnetic tape storage system passes the LTO magnetic storage tape encoded with the odd and even LPOS words with error correcting ability longitudinally across a servo reader/writer at a known speed, decoding the encoded positional information and detecting and correcting both ambiguous bits and single erroneous bit errors.

    摘要: An improved magnetic recording disk drive, in particular a flexible disk drive, includes a head positioning servo system which utilizes servo information recorded on the disk by the disk drive. The servo information is located within one of the data sectors and is in the form of a pattern of radially spaced-apart segments, each segment overlapping a number of data tracks and comprising magnetic transitions which increase in frequency in the radial direction to provide a digital head position error signal (PES). A similar segment is located in each of the other data sectors around the perimeter of the disk to provide track profile information so that the head positioning system can compensate for disk runout and distortion. The disk drive includes means for eliminating the effect of the amplitude of the readback signal from the servo and profile segments on the head positioning system, thus assuring a reliable PES at all radial locations on the disk and allowing interchangeability of disks among disk drives.
