[Also in Divisions B3 and B4] A method of forming a flexible conduit includes punching equally spaced holes along the length of a continuously moving flexible strip 18, offsetting the solid portions between the holes alternately towards either face of the strip to form projecting bridge portions 12 and extruding a casing 17 of a synthetic plastics material about the strip. The finished conduit carries a slidable or rotatable wire 16 and forms a control cable. The strip is preferably metal, but may be of plastic. In the apparatus claimed, the strip 18 is drawn from a reel 20 by a device 24 (see Divisions B3 and B4), which punches circular holes in it and offsets the bridges 12. The strip is then hardened in a device 26 where an R.F. generator and coil heat the strip before it is quenched in an oil bath (Fig. 8, not shown), and tempered by passing through a second coil-generator heating device at 170. The plastic cover is extruded on to the strip by the machine 32 and the plastic coating is water-cooled in troughs 34. 36 is a tensioning device with caterpillar belts 176 and 178 which keeps the strip taut throughout the aforementioned processes.
