Abstract: The present invention solves a problem of a trade-off between increases in paint discharge rate and maintenance of painting quality. A rotary atomizing electrostatic applicator includes a bell cup 10 whose back 10a is hit by atomization air SA-IN at an angle of 90 degrees or less; and first air holes 30 adapted to discharge the atomization air SA-IN directed at the back 10a of the bell cup, wherein the first air holes 30 are arranged at equal intervals on a circumference centered around a rotation axis of the bell cup 10, the first air holes 30 are oriented in a direction opposite to a rotation direction of the bell cup 10; and the atomization air SA-IN discharged through the first air holes 30 is twisted in the direction opposite to the rotation direction of the bell cup 10 at an angle of 50 degrees or more and less than 60 degrees.

Abstract: An electrostatic painting method includes supplying, via a pure water supply passage, pure water to a paint tank within which paint is stored, applying a voltage to paint that is pushed out from the paint tank by the supplied pure water, and spraying the paint to which the voltage has been applied, at an object to be painted. Pure water remaining in the pure water supply passage is replaced to increase an electrical resistance value of the pure water before starting to paint the object to be painted.

Abstract: An electrostatic coating apparatus includes a coating gun that sprays a coating material toward a coated matter, a high-voltage application apparatus that applies a high voltage to the coating gun, a bell-side current calculation unit that calculates a bell-side current to flow from the coating gun to the coated matter, an earth-side current measurement unit that measures an earth-side current to flow from the coated matter to the earth, and an earth check unit that detects an abnormal earth state of the coated matter, depending on a magnitude relation between the bell-side current calculated at the time of electrostatic coating and the bell-side current when the earth is properly connected, and a magnitude relation between the earth-side current measured at the time of the electrostatic coating and the earth-side current when the earth is properly connected.
