The surface-modified polymethylsilsesquioxane spherical fine particles of this invention comprise polymethylsilsesquioxane spherical fine particles serving as nuclei, and at least one member of an alkyl group having two or more carbon atoms, an alkenyl group, a phenyl group, an epoxy group, an acryloxy group and an amino group is bonded to the surface of a particle. They are prepared by a process comprising the step of carrying out reaction in an aqueous suspension of polymethylsilsesquioxane fine particles in the presence of an alkali catalyst. The surface-modified spherical fine particles can have various organic groups on their surfaces, and are used in various fields such as rubbers, plastics, coating materials, inks, and cosmetics, depending on the types of the organic groups.

Amorphous spherical silica microparticulates having a specific surface area of 5-50 m2/g and a particle size distribution of 5-1,000 nm are added to toner particles to form an electrostatic image developer which has improved fluidity and cleaning characteristics. On account of the minimized impurity content of the spherical silica microparticulates, the developer is effective for high-quality and high-speed duplication.

The invention discloses a novel method for the preparation of globular particles of a silicone resin or, in particular, a polyorganosilsesquioxane resin having properties suitable as an adjuvant in hair-care toiletry preparations by the hydrolysis condensation reaction of an organotrialkoxy silane compound such as methyl trimethoxysilane in an aqueous alkaline medium. Characteristically, the aqueous reaction medium is alkalified with ammonia or, preferably, an amine compound, e.g., mono(n-alkyl) amine compound, to have a specified pH value of 10.0 to 13.0 and the hydrolysis condensation reaction of the starting silane compound in the aqueous medium is conducted in the presence of metallic ions or, in particular, magnesium ions in a specified concentration of 1×10−5 to 1×10−2 mole/liter.

A rubber compound comprising (A) an organopolysiloxane having at least two alkenyl groups in a molecule and (B) reinforcing silica powder is blended with (C) silicone elastomer particles obtained by reacting an organohydrogenpolysiloxane with a vinyl group-containing organopolysiloxane such that the molar ratio of .tbd.SiH group to --CH.dbd.CH.sub.2 group ranges from 1.2 to 5 and (D) a platinum catalyst to form a silicone rubber composition which cures into a product having high rubber strength despite the inclusion of silicone elastomer particles. The composition finds typical use as silicone rubber parts in copying machines.

Provided are silicone microparticles including 100 parts by mass of silicone elastomer spherical microparticles having a volume average particle diameter within a range from 0.1 to 100 μm, and 0.5 to 25 parts by mass of a polyorganosilsesquioxane that coats the surface of the silicone elastomer spherical microparticles, in which the silicone elastomer is capable of absorbing not less than 30 parts by mass of at least one oily substance selected from the group consisting of sebum, hydrocarbon oils and ester oils per 100 parts by mass of the silicone elastomer. These silicone microparticles are capable of absorbing a large amount of the above oily substances, are able to ameliorate various problems caused by sebum such as changes in cosmetic make-up properties, changes in the color of cosmetic materials and increased shininess of cosmetic materials, and are also able to suppress the greasiness, stickiness, and oily film feeling of cosmetic materials containing at least one of liquid oils composed of hydrocarbon oils and ester oils. The silicone microparticles can be produced by hydrolyzing and condensing an organotrialkoxysilane in a water medium, in the presence of the above silicone elastomer spherical microparticles and an alkaline material, thereby coating the surface of the silicone elastomer spherical microparticles with a polyorganosilsesquioxane.

Disclosed is a powder consisting of particles of a cured fluoro-silicone rubber having a specified average particle diameter and a specified rubber hardness. The fluorosilicone rubber has a siloxane composition consisting of three types of units expressed by the unit formulas of [R1R2SiO2/2], [R22SiO2/2] and [R23SiO1/2], in which R1 is preferably a 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl group and R2 is preferably a methyl group, in such a proportion that the molar ratio of R1:(R1+R2) is in the range from 0.05 to 0.5. The powder is useful as an ingredient in a cosmetic or toiletry preparation to effect improved sustainability of the cosmetic finish and decreased unevenness of coloring on human skin.
