摘要： There is provided a video retrieval method, and apparatus, capable of fast matching a feature of a target video with a feature of an enquiry video without conducting work of providing keywords for video retrieval. As for the target video, both a video which is being broadcasted and a video included in a data base can be dealt with. A retrieval method includes the steps of providing a representative frame image specified by a user with a code or a code string as a name thereof, and registering beforehand code strings of a plurality of representative frame images as enquiry video names; inputting a target video; extracting a representative frame image from the video; calculating one feature or a plurality of features from a whole or a part of the frame image; assigning a corresponding code to the feature or each of the features; providing the frame image with the code or a code string arranged in a predetermined order as a name thereof, and producing a video name for the video in a form of a frame name string corresponding to a string of the frames; and matching the enquiry video names with the video name by using the frame name string and outputting a result.

摘要： There is provided a video retrieval method, and apparatus, capable of fast matching a feature of a target video with a feature of an enquiry video without conducting work of providing keywords for video retrieval. 摘要： Only a video cut (containing a frame) designated by a user is automatically and correctly extracted directly from a video image under playing operation at high speed. A judgement is made as to whether or not the frame of the video image is designated by the user. When such a user designation is made, a detection is made of a change point in the video cut containing this designated frame (reverse playing direction, forward playing direction). Under such a condition that a frame image immediately before this change point is displayed, the playing operation of the video image is brought into a pause state. Accordingly, only the video cut desired by the user can be extracted during a single playing operation of the video image, and the video image can be edited in a high efficiency.

摘要： A method and apparatus for displaying a representative image corresponding to a shot of a duration within a specified range included in a plurality of shots of a moving image. The moving image includes a plurality of successive frames each having an image and each shot includes a plurality of the successive frames. In the invention a plurality of shot change points are sequentially detected from the moving image. The shot change points represent points between a pair of frames where images of a preceding shot and images of a succeeding shot have changed. Thereafter a detection is performed to determine whether a duration of a shot between a preceding shot change point and a succeeding shot change point is within the specified range. A representative image corresponding to the shot having a duration within the specified range is displayed along with duration time information representing the duration of the shot. A reduced image from the shot can be displayed as the representative image and the number of detected shots having a duration within the specified range can be reduced according to preset conditions.
