A mass spectrometer capable of obtaining a clear microscopic observation image with high spatial resolution in real time, even during a mass analysis, without affecting the analysis is provided. An aperture 1a is formed in a stage 1 on which a sample plate 2 to be placed. The sample plate 2 is transparent or translucent. A microscopic observation unit, including an observation optical system 20 and a CCD camera 21, is provided below the stage 1 to observe the reverse side of the sample 3 through the aperture 1a of the stage 1 as well as the transparent sample plate 2. The observed image is displayed on the screen of a display unit 27. If the sample 3 is a slice of biological tissue, the sample image taken from the reverse side will be substantially the same as an image taken from the obverse side.

A mass spectrometer is provided that restrains the signal intensity of an MS/MS spectrum from decreasing according to the secondary dissociation of a primary fragment ion generated by a photodissociation. An excitation laser light for causing a photodissociation is irradiated to the trapping space A in the ion trap 1. At the same time, an excitation signal that does not excite a precursor ion but excites fragment ions is applied to the end cap electrodes 12 and 13. Since the selected precursor ions gather around the center of the trapping space A, they are irradiated by the excitation laser light and efficiently dissociated. The fragment ions generated by this are immediately excited by the excitation electric field's effect, and are vibrated wildly to be out of the excitation light irradiated space B. Therefore, the fragment ions are not easily irradiated by the excitation laser light and the secondary dissociation does not easily occur.

The present disclosure provides an oxygen storage/release material that has achieved both the improved oxygen storage/release capacity at low temperature and heat tolerance, which comprises a ceria-zirconia-based composite oxide, wherein the ceria-zirconia-based composite oxide further comprises praseodymium (Pr) or neodymium (Nd), and has, in at least a part thereof, at least one ordered phase of κ phase and a pyrochlore phase, a proportion of primary particles having particle diameters of 0.4 μm to 1.5 μm is 40% to 100% on a particle number basis, and, when heated for 5 hours in the air at 1,100° C., I(14/29) value is 0.015 or more and I(28/29) value is 0.08 or less. The present disclosure also relates to a method for producing such oxygen storage/release material.

When a sample plate 3 is set on a sample stage 2, an irradiation trace formation controller 22 appropriately moves the sample stage 2 and throws a short pulse of high-power laser beam to create an irradiation trace at a predetermined position on the sample plate 3.The irradiation trace has a unique shape. A microscopic image of the irradiation trace is captured and saved in an image storage section 32. After the sample plate 3 is temporarily removed from the stage 2 to apply a matrix to a sample, the sample plate 3 is re-set on the same stage 2. Then, the displacement of the sample plate 3 from its original position is calculated from the difference in the position of the irradiation trace between an image taken at that point in time and the image previously stored in the image storage section 32. Based on the calculated result, an analysis position corrector 24 modifies the position information of an area selected by an operator. Thus, the displacement of the re-set sample plate can be accurately detected. There is no need to use a special sample plate previously processed for creating a marker for displacement detection.
