摘要: A magnetic head slider has a plurality of rail planes to generate a floating force by using an air flow passing through a region between a group of the rail planes and a magnetic disk rotated at a constant rotating speed, and the slider floats up into the air according to the floating force. Also, the slider has a first pad arranged near an air inflow end of one rail plane and a second pad arranged near an air outflow end of the same or another rail plane, and a height of the first pad and a height of the second pad respectively range from 20 to 50 nm. Therefore, a coefficient of a friction between the pads and the magnetic disk can be reduced, and the wear of the pads can be prevented. Also, the contact of an electro-magnetic transducing device attached to the air outflow end of the rail plane with the magnetic disk can be prevented.

摘要: A magnetic head slider having an air inlet end surface and an air outlet end surface, including a pair of rails formed on a disk opposing surface opposed to a magnetic disk, each of the rails having a flat air bearing surface for generating a flying force during rotation of the magnetic disk and a tapering surface formed continuously to the air bearing surface so as to meet the air inlet end surface; and an electromagnetic transducer formed on the air outlet end surface at a position where one of the rails is formed. The magnetic head slider further includes a pair of projections each formed continuously on the tapering surface and the air bearing surface of each rail, each of the projections extending to a peripheral edge of the air bearing surface.

摘要: The head slider mounts a recording/reproducing element and flies over a recording medium with the airflow generated when the recording medium moves. The head slider comprises a slider body having an air inflow end and an air outflow end, a rail projected from the slider body to define an air bearing surface extended to the outflow end, a projection formed on the rail and between the inflow end and the outflow end, and a recess formed at the outflow end of the rail to make narrow the width of the rail. When the recording medium stops, the head slider and the recording medium are in contact at the projection and the air outflow end of the rail. Since the outflow end of the rail is narrow in width, the stiction can be prevented. Moreover, it is unnecessary to form a projection near the outflow end of the rail and thereby the flying height of the recording/reproducing element can be lowered to improve the recording/reproducing sensitivity.

摘要: A memory disc for use in a memory disc, comprising a lubricant layer which consists essentially of a non-fluid bonding lubricant, or comprises a lubricant layer which contains at least 90% of non-fluid bonding lubricant. Such memory disc is fabricated through steps of: forming a protective carbon layer; coating a lubricant on a disc substrate; subjecting the resultant substrate to an adhesion treatment to form a bonding layer of lubricant adhering to the disc substrate; and removing a free fluid layer of the lubricant remaining on the bonding layer. Thus, the memory disc has essentially no fluid component that can flow during read/write operations.

摘要: A protection film is layered over the trailing or outflow end surface of a slider body in a head slider for a recording medium drive. A head element is embedded within the protection film. The head element generates heat in response to the supply of an electric current. The heat causes thermal expansion of the protection film. The tip end of the head element thus excessively approaches the recording disk beyond the medium-opposed surface of the head slider. The flying height of a protection protuberance is set smaller than a flying height of the head element even when the protection film suffers from thermal expansion. The protection protuberance is allowed to trace an orbit closer to the recording medium than the orbit of the head element. The protection protuberance is allowed to collide against obstacles on the recording medium in front of the head element.
