    摘要: A gas generator for air bags for use in an air bag system for safely protecting a driver and riders in a vehicle from shock from collisions at low cost, while preventing slag in a gas flowing outside. The gas generator includes a housing (3) formed by a side cylinder (1b) with a plurality of gas exhaust openings (8) the housing being closed at its ends by an upper cap (1a) and a lower cap (2a); an igniting device (16), provided in the housing (3) at a center portion thereof; gas generating agents (6), provided in the housing (3) at a location radially outside of the igniting device (16), to be burnt to generate gas; a cooling/filtering member (7) provided in the housing (3) at a location radially outside of the gas generating agents (6) to enclose the gas generating agents and extending from the side of the upper cap (1a) to the side of the lower cap (2a); and an annular projection (50) for preventing the gas generated by the burning of the gas generating agents (6) from flowing toward an end portion of the cooling/filtering member (7). The annular projection (50) is integrally formed on at least one of the upper cap (1a) and the lower cap (2a) so as to abut with an inner peripheral surface of the cooling/filtering member (7).

    摘要: A gas generator for slowly inflating an air bag at the early stage of the inflation and then rapidly inflating it or discharge a clean gas evenly around a housing. The gas generator includes a gas generating agent (6) and an squib (8,9) in the housing (1). The squib (9) is disposed eccentrically to the axis (a) of the housing (1). A high temperature gas is generated in a combustion chamber (4) because of the combustion of the gas generating agent (6) ignited by the squib (9). The permeability of the high temperature gas through inner cylindrical member (2) closest to the squib (9) is lower than that through the part other than the inner cylindrical member (2).

In the gas generator, a housing (4) is formed by joining an iron- or steel-made upper lid (2), consisting of a top plate (2a) and a side cylinder (1a) extending downward from an entire circumferential edge thereof and provided with many gas discharge holes (8) with an iron- or steel-made lower lid (3), consisting of a bottom plate (3f), side cylinder (1b) extending upward from an entire circumferential edge thereof, and an ignitor holding portion (3a) formed integrally with the bottom plate (3f) and for fixing by caulking an ignitor (30). In the housing (4), the ignitor (30) and a gas generating agent (6) are arranged in the order mentioned from a center thereof.
