Abstract: 17 ABSTRACT A transmitter and Doherty power amplifier configured for envelope-controlled biasing of an auxiliary transmitter of the Doherty power amplifier are disclosed. According to one aspect, a transmitter having a main amplifier in a main signal path and an auxiliary amplifier in an auxiliary signal path is provided. The auxiliary amplifier is configured to be activated only when an envelope of an input signal of the transmitter exceeds a power threshold. The transmitter also includes at least one component in the auxiliary signal path configured to be deactivated when the auxiliary amplifier is deactivated, the at least one component including at least one of a pre-power amplifier, a mixer and a local oscillator buffer.

Abstract: An attenuator for attenuating a signal is disclosed. The attenuator comprises a differential input port with a positive input node and a negative input node to receive the signal; and a differential output port with a positive output node and a negative output node to output the attenuated signal. The attenuator further comprises a first switched resistor network connected between the positive input node and the positive output node; and a second switched resistor network connected between the negative input node and the negative output node. Further a pair of compensation paths is connected to the first and second switched resistor networks for cancellation their parasitic leakages, where a first compensation path is connected between the positive input node and the negative output node, and a second compensation path is connected between the negative input node and the positive output node. The attenuator further comprises a control circuit to generate control signals for controlling the first and second switched resistor networks.

Abstract: There is provided a power amplifier arrangement for amplifying an input power signal to an output power signal. The power amplifier arrangement comprises a main amplifier having an input and an output. The power amplifier arrangement comprises at least one auxiliary amplifier, each having an input and an output. The power amplifier arrangement comprises a power divider having an input and outputs. The input of the power divider is configured to receive the input power signal. Each output of the power divider is connected to a respective input of the power amplifiers. The power amplifier arrangement comprises a Doherty combiner comprising at least one Ruthroff transformer and configured to combine all the outputs of the power amplifiers to, at an output of the Doherty combiner, produce the output power signal.

Abstract: A radio frequency receiver having a plurality of parallel receiving paths, wherein each path can receive a radio frequency signal in one of a plurality of radio frequency bands and amplify the received signal in a low noise amplifier. The amplified signals from the plurality of parallel paths are combined to one combined radio frequency signal in a common summation node and down-converted to a lower frequency signal in a mixer circuit. Each low noise amplifier comprises a low noise transconductance circuit providing a current signal to drive the common summation node, and an automatic gain control circuit in each path compensates for variations in signal strength independently of signal strengths of signals received by the other receiving paths. The receiver is suitable for simultaneous multiple band reception, where received signal strength can vary between the frequency bands.
