Abstract: A method and apparatus for direct printing of multiple views of 3-D objects in a PDF file is described. When a PDF file containing 3-D object data is sent to a printer, without using an application or print driver, the controller of a printer generates and prints a plurality of views of the 3-D object based on pre-defined viewing angle settings. The printer controller opens the PDF file, converts the 3-D PDF data to PS data based on the viewing angle, performs raster image processing, prints the bitmap images corresponding to the viewing angle, and repeats the process for all viewing angles. The plurality of views may be printed on separate pages, or on one page in an N-in-1 format. More generally, the method applies to direct printing of files containing objects that are capable of providing multiple appearances, where multiple or desired appearances of the objects are automatically printed.

Abstract: A finishing apparatus is provided which includes a stacker for stacking recording sheets; a first and second conveyor for conveying a recording sheet to an image forming apparatus; a sheet accommodating device for accommodating a sheet to be inserted at an insertion position which is at least one of the top of, the bottom of or a middle portion between the recording sheets; a sheet feeder for feeding the sheet accommodated in the sheet accommodating device to the stacker; an input device for designating the insertion position of the sheet; and a finishing controller for controlling the sheet feeder so that the sheet to be inserted into the recording sheets is stopped and thereafter reconveyed. The feeding interval between the first and second conveyors is made larger when a sheet is inserted between recording sheets.

Abstract: A variable data printing (VDP) method is disclosed in which different types of contents on each piece of the VDP production, such as color form contents and black and white contents, are printed using different types of printers, such as color printers and black and white printers, respectively. The color form content is printed first to form partially printed sheets. Partially printed sheet carrying different color contents are loaded into different input trays of the black and white printers. The black and white content is printed on the partially printed sheets using the black and white printers. When printing the black and white content, the color data in the input VDP data is excluded. The job tickets for the black and white print jobs specify the input trays to be used so that the appropriate partially printed sheet is selected for each black and white print job.
