Polyester polymers consisting essentially of repeating units having the formula ##STR1## repeating units having the formula--O--Ar.sup.1 --CO-- [II],repeating units having the formula--O--Ar.sup.2 --O-- [III],and repeating units having the formula ##STR2## wherein Ar.sup.1 is selected from ##STR3## Ar.sup.2 is selected from ##STR4## halogen substituted radicals of these radicals, and ##STR5## wherein X is selected from --O--, --S--, --SO.sub.2 --, --CO--, --O(CH.sub.2).sub.n O--.--CH.sub.2).sub.n, and ##STR6## wherein each n independently represents a member having a value of from 1 to 10, and each R.sup.4 is independently selected from alkyl radicals of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, andR.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are independently selected from hydrogen atom, halogen radicals, alkyl radicals of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, and phenyl radical, and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 may be identical or different from each other, andR.sup.1 is selected from halogen radicals and alkyl radicals of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, and wherein the polyester polymer has a reduced viscosity [.eta.sp/c] of at least 0.2 dl/g as measured in p-chlorophenol at a concentration of 0.2 g/dl at 60.degree. C.Such polyester polymers are excellent in the mechanical strength and heat resistance and, therefore, are useful as various kinds of fibers, films, or engineering plastics. A process for preparing the polyester polymer and novel diimide-dicarboxylic acid to be used as a material in this process are also disclosed.

Disclosed is a polyester carbonate containing imido groups comprising recurring units represented by the following formula: ##STR1## and recurring units represented by the following formula:--O--Ar--O--CO-- (2)wherein Ar represents a divalent aromatic hydrocarbon group selected from the group consisting of ##STR2## with a mole fraction of the recurring units shown by the formula (1) being 0.2 to 0.8, and having a reduced viscosity [.eta.sp/C] of 0.3 dl/g or more at 60.degree. C. in a solution in which the polyester carbonate is dissolved in p-chlorophenol as a solvent at a concentration of 0.2 g/dl.Further disclosed is a process for producing the same which comprises allowing 4-carboxy-N-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-phthalimide to react with a divalent phenol represented by the following formula:HO--Ar--OH (3)wherein Ar has the same meaning as above,and diphenyl carbonate.The compound of this invention or the compound prepared according to the process of this invention has a higher mechanical strength, good moldability, solvent resistance and liquid crystal characteristic.

There is disclosed a process for preparing a resin composition for powder molding, comprising 50 to 97 wt % of a metal or alloy powder and 50 to 3 wt % of a thermoplastic resin having heat resistance and crystallinity, which process comprises dissolving the thermoplastic resin having heat resistance crystallinity in a solvent and at the same time, dispersing therein at least one metal or alloy powder selected from iron, brass, nickel silver, stainless steel and aluminum, having an average particle diameter of not more than 500 .mu.m to thereby prepare a mixture. In addition, there is disclosed a process for producing a powder molded product which comprises cold compressing molding the above resin composition and then heating the molding at a temperature not less than the melting point of the thermoplastic resin. This powder molded product has excellent dimensional stability against heat, chemical resistance, and mechanical strength.

The present invention relates to a polycarbonate resin that has a viscosity average molecular weight of from 10,000 to 17,000 and has characteristic features in an iron content, a free total phenol content, a content of a releasing agent, a fraction of hydroxyl end groups, a 1H-NMR spectrum or the like. The polycarbonate resin has less defects due to flash without increase of an addition amount of a releasing agent to an unnecessary level and therefore is suitable for a material of an optical disk substrate.

Also, there is disclosed a process for producing a magnetic powder material wherein there is added to a mixture containing a crystalline thermoplastic resin dissolved therein and magnetic powder dispersed therein a bad solvent for the resin to effect precipitation of the resin from the solution system and the resin is adhered or coated onto the magnetic powder. Other methods for forming the magentic powder material are disclosed as a resin-bonded magnetic obtained from such magnetic powder material.
