Abstract: A portable electronic device for assessing an affected area of an aircraft is disclosed. A reference marker having a known size is located on the aircraft. The portable electronic device includes a processor in communication with a structural database, where the structural database includes a template that defines a maximum allowable size of damage to the aircraft. The processor executes instructions for determining an actual size of the affected area based on the known size of the reference marker. The processor also executes instructions for comparing the actual size of the affected area with the maximum allowable size of damage to the aircraft. The processor further executes instructions for determining that the actual size of the affected area exceeds the maximum allowable size of damage to the aircraft.

Abstract: A system and a method include a first communication system onboard an aircraft and a control unit having one or more processors that determine that one or more ambient conditions require a de-icing event of the aircraft, determine a location of the aircraft, and a status of one or more systems of the aircraft. The first communication system establishes a bi-directional communication link with a second communication system of a de-icing system. The first communication system receives one or more command messages from the second communication system indicating a status of the de-icing event. The control unit changes one or more operating settings of the aircraft responsive to completion of the de-icing event

Abstract: A runway exiting system is configured to determine a suitable exit off of a runway for an aircraft. The runway exiting system includes a housing, and one or more processors within the housing that are configured to determine a current position of the aircraft on the runway, determine a current rate of deceleration of the aircraft on the runway, and determine the suitable exit off of the runway for the aircraft based, at least in part, on the current position of the aircraft on the runway and the current rate of deceleration of the aircraft on the runway.

Abstract: A system for assessing an affected area of an aircraft is disclosed. A reference marker having a known size is placed along an exterior of the aircraft. The system includes a portable electronic device including a processor in communication with a structural database. The structural database includes a template that defines a maximum allowable size of damage to the aircraft. The processor executes an instruction for determining an actual size of the affected area based on the known size of the reference marker. The processor executes an instruction for comparing the actual size of the affected area of the aircraft with the maximum allowable size of damage to the aircraft. The processor executes an instruction for determining if the actual size of the affected area exceeds the maximum allowable size of damage to the aircraft. The processor executes an instruction for determining a further action.

Abstract: A method and system for handling a missed approach of an aircraft. A group of signals that indicates a go-around maneuver occurring during an approach of the aircraft to land at an airport is detected on a data bus in the aircraft. An alert to an air traffic control system for the airport when the signal is detected. The alert indicates an occurrence of the go-around maneuver, enabling rerouting of air traffic in a manner that enhances safety.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for predicting fuel for an aircraft. Remaining amounts of fuel that will be present for types of fuel use for the aircraft at a destination are predicted. Flight times for the types of fuel use are calculated from the remaining amounts of fuel predicted for the types of fuel use for the aircraft at the destination. Graphical indicators are displayed indicating the types of fuel use and the flight times for the types of fuel use.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for an aircraft at an airport surrounded by an environment, the aircraft having a first engine and a second engine wherein the second engine is to be started after the first engine. The system and method are configured for determining a minimum amount of warm-up time needed for starting the second engine to meet predetermined start-up requirements for the second engine, based on one or more of engine-related information relating to the second engine, aircraft-related information relating to the aircraft, airport-related information relating to the airport, and environment-related information relating to the environment, and producing an alert based on the minimum amount of warm-up time needed.
