An apparatus for producing a controlled dosage of bioactive agent is disclosed. The apparatus includes: a print device to eject a drop of a mixture onto an ingestible substrate, wherein the drop of mixture includes a bioactive agent within an ingestible carrier fluid and is between 50 ng and 1000 ng in size; a charge generating device adjacent to the print device to generate charge on the bioactive agent to draw the bioactive agent to the ingestible substrate; a cold fluid removal device adjacent to the charge generating device to remove a portion of the ingestible carrier fluid from the bioactive agent; an application device adjacent to the cold fluid removal device to apply an ingestible layer on top of the ingestible substrate encapsulating the bioactive agent or to fold the ingestible substrate on top of the bioactive agent encapsulating the bioactive agent; and a transfer device adjacent to the print device, the charge generating is device, the cold fluid removal device, and the application device to move the ingestible substrate from one device to the next.

The invention relates to a method for producing liquid toner compositions containing charge directors and in which the electrical properties of the charge directors are stabilized, which method comprises the steps of: (A) first making a homogeneous liquid composition which comprises (1) liquid hydrocarbon compatible with liquid toners for electrostatic imaging, (2) at least one charge director, and (3) at least one stabilizing component in an amount effective to stabilize the electrical properties of the at least one charge director, the stabilizing component being selected from solubilizable acids which include organic moieties (e.g. C.sub.12 to C.sub.18 saturated aliphatic carboxylic acids, C.sub.4 to C.sub.18 ethylenically unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acids, C.sub.7 to C.sub.13 aromatic carboxylic acids, and partial alkyl esters of orthophosphoric acid containing 12 to 36 carbon atoms); and (B) mixing the homogeneous liquid composition from step (A) in any order with at least component (5) from the following components (5) and (6), namely, (5) pigmented thermoplastic resin particles, and (6) further liquid hydrocarbon as defined in (1), above, such that component (5) is micro-dispersed in the toner composition.

Scuff resistance, abrasion resistance and peel resistance of a wide class of liquid toners may be improved by the addition of a minor amount of an additional material which, at the fusing temperature used for the toner, has a much lower viscosity, preferably several orders of magnitude lower, than the viscosity of the toner particles at the fusing temperature and which forms a separate phase from the toner particles when solidified. It is believed that such material, during the fusing process, migrates to the outer surface of the image. During cooling of the image after it is fused, the additional material forms a substantially separate phase resulting in a hard slippery coating of the additional material which protects the image from abrasion.
