摘要: A method, apparatus, and computer instructions for managing streaming media data. A graphical user interface having a set of controls for use in managing a media data stream is presented. User input is received for use in managing the media data stream in which the user input includes an identification of a source of the media data stream, a start time, and a desired format. The media data stream is requested using the start time and the identification of the source. The media data stream is converted into the desired format to form a formatted media data stream. The formatted media data stream is then stored on a storage media.

摘要: A consumer is provided with an implementation to personalize his compact optical recording discs. A compact optical recording disc comprising a primary section including a read-only permanent digital data recording, and an ancillary read-write section enabling a user to digitally record data to thereby personalize the recording disc to the needs of the user. The section including the read-only permanent digital recording is on a spiral track on said recording disc, and the read-write section is on a spiral track extension continuous with the continuous track. The read-only spiral track comprises a layer of sequential bumps defining the permanent digital data recording pattern, and the read-write spiral track extension comprises a smooth layer of laser beam sensitive material, the material reversibly darkens upon exposure to define the digital data recording pattern.

摘要: If RF transmission repeater units could be mounted in as many automobiles as possible, particularly automobiles owned by drivers residing in low population regions, the likelihood would increase that there could be established wireless transmission paths between a wireless telephone unit and cellular array base stations, including a set of at least one automobile mounted repeater unit intermediate and independent of said wireless telephone unit and said base station. With enough automobiles with mounted repeaters travelling in the remoter regions, there would be a reasonable likelihood that such sequential sets of repeaters connecting to base towers of adjacent cellular arrays could be randomly established. The situation could occur that two or more alternate paths could be establishable between a cellular telephone and cell base stations via two different sets of repeaters. In such a case, as set forth hereinafter in greater detail, there are likely to be different cell base stations, each for a different path. In such a case, any conflict could be resolved by selecting the path having the best transmission attributes. This conflict could readily be resolved through conventional cellular telephone system technology that switches moving cell phones within cellular array areas that “hand-off” or switch a moving cell phone as it moves from conventional cell to cell. This hand-off is based upon attributes like signal-to-noise ratio or strength of signal.

摘要: Extending the function of a conventional VCR to both do digital recording and to convert analog tape VCR cassette recordings to a digital format without any apparatus modification of the conventional VCR. A portable video recording device comprises a video cassette housing adapted to operatively engage a video cassette recorder, i.e. the VCR requires no modification; the VCR in effect thinks that it is receiving a conventional VCR cassette. The inserted cassette housing comprises a set of read-write heads for operatively engaging an opposing set of read-write heads in the video cassette recorder; disk-drive storage apparatus operatively connected to said cassette read-write heads; and apparatus for converting analog input from the VCR to digital data and storing the data in the disk-drive storage.

摘要: Enabling the server systems managing E-mail distribution, as well as the server systems managing Web site document distribution to selectively reduce the quality of images in E-mail and Web pages in order to maintain effective transmission and storage of such electronic documents. An implementation in the document transmission path intermediate the document sources and the receiving display stations determines the number of colors in the color palettes of images in transmitted documents, and a device responsive to the determination selectively converts these color palettes to color palettes having a lower number of colors for said images. Then, an implementation transmits the documents having these converted color palettes. There is also a storage device in the document transmission path intermediate the sources and the receiving display stations for storing the documents having the converted color palettes with a lower number of colors for the images.
