In a distributed computing system including an Internet access point, an authentication service, and a third party client system, an authentication service receives an authorization request from a third party client system. The authorization request is initiated in response to a single action being performed by a user of the third party client system. The user is not required to manually submit any identification information. The authorization request includes a unique client identifier for identifying the third party client system. The method also includes verifying that the third party client system associated with the unique client identifier is authorized to access the Internet via the Internet access point. If the third party client system is authorized to access the Internet, Internet access is provided to the third party client system.

A satellite radio may be able to receive channels from a satellite network as well as over an IP-based network. The device can be configured to tune multiple channels selected from the channels available to the device over these networks based on the user's preferences. The user preferences can be compared to at least the metadata of the channels available to the device in order to identify the channels that best match the user's preferences. The channels identified in this manner are then tuned and recorded on the device. A user may then be notified of the recorded content.

摘要： Automated acquisition of content including digital media for a device. A device such as a satellite radio can discover content from multiple data stream sources. The device then receives input from a user selecting or identifying specific content to acquire. The device, upon detecting an appropriate network that enables the device to communicate with a remote service or media repository, requests the content using a portion of the specific content such as metadata. The device then receives the content from the service or from the media repository. Often the received content is a higher quality version of the content whereas the portion of the content stored by the device may be lower quality. The user is notified after the content has been acquired.

摘要： A method and system for interfacing between a portable media device and one or more media content providers. The method may be practiced, for example, in a system including the portable media device that receives content from one or more media content providers. The method can include identifying a first data format employed by the portable media device and a second data format employed by a selected media content provider. A data stream is received from the selected media content provider. The data received from the selected media content provider can be modified to be compatible with the first data format. Alternately or additionally, the data stream can be filtered to eliminate content that is unnecessary for the portable media device. The method further includes communicating the formatted data to the portable media device.

摘要： Guided discovery of content in a device. A device such as a satellite radio can received multiple data streams at least over networks including a satellite network or other wireless networks. The device includes filters that are based on the history of the device, the advertising history of the device, or on lists obtained from other devices. The data streams available to the device are filtered using the filters to discover content in the data streams. Content, including metadata or a portion of the content itself, discovered by the results of the filters can be stored at the device. The device notifies the user of the discovered content. The filters guide the discovery of content that may be of interest to the user of the device.

摘要： Systems and methods for inputting configuration and network authorization information into a media device such that the media device may interface with media content providers and wireless networks. A service center collects configuration and network authorization information for a media device and generates a configuration module based thereon. The configuration module is then converted into the form of barcode which is provided to a media device capable of reading a barcode. The media device decodes the barcode and extracts the configuration module. The extracted configuration module is installed on the media device, configuring the device to access predetermined media content providers and/or wireless networks.
