    摘要: An ophthalmic surgical device (10) includes a housing (12) having a distal end (14) and a proximal end (16). A cannula (18) is attached to the housing distal end (14) and has a distal tip (20) with at least one port (22) in communication with a lumen (19) extending through the cannula (18) and in communication with an aspiration path (24) in the housing (12). A vibration source (26) is held within the housing (12) for vibrating the distal tip (20) for assisting in vitreous and other tissue removal. An aspiration source (152) connected to the aspiration path (24) for applying a negative pressure to the lumen (19) and the at least one port (22) for removing fluids and the vitreous and other tissue from the eye. The vibration source (26) and the aspiration source (152) together create a periodic bi-directional flow of tissue through the port (22) without creating cavitation externally of the distal tip (20).

    摘要: A system and method are provided for fragmenting a crystalline lens inside an operational volume in the lens. A reference axis that is based on the crystalline lens is established, and various pluralities of parallel planes are defined relative to the reference axis. A pulsed laser beam is then used to cut tissue in selected planes, to thereby fragment the lens by performing Laser Induced Optical Breakdown (LIOB) on the tissue. In accordance with the present invention each plurality of parallel planes is characterized by a particular inclination angle “φ” relative to the reference axis, a particular azimuthal angle “θ” relative to the reference axis, and an intersection angle “ψ” relative to each other.

    摘要: A pneumatically driven vitrectomy probe system includes a movable member disposed within a cylinder to define an enclosed pressure chamber, which has an inlet and an outlet. A pressure transducer senses the pressure level within the enclosed pressure chamber, and a valve communicates pressurized air to the inlet of the enclosed pressure chamber based on the pressure level. A displacement device coupled to the movable member extends and retracts the movable member within the enclosed pressure chamber, to respectively increase and decrease the pressure level of pressurized air communicated via the chamber outlet. The pressurized air is communicated to enclosed volume within a pneumatically activated vitrectomy probe, which includes a hollow inner cutting member disposed within the hollow outer member. Upon extension of the displacement member, the resulting increase in pressure level of the pressurized air in the enclosed volume acts against the biasing spring to move the hollow inner cutting member, to cut vitreous material extending within the hollow outer member.

    摘要: A ground detection apparatus for sensing the presence of a malfunction within an electronic instrument. The apparatus includes an active electrical circuit for delivering electrical energy from a power source to an electrically-driven instrument. The apparatus further includes a plurality of return electrical circuits connected in series with the active electrical circuit distal the electrically-driven instrument. A transformer coil is positioned within the apparatus such that the active electrical circuit includes a first winding about the transformer coil and such that one of the return electrical circuits includes a second winding about the transformer coil. The first and second windings are configured such that no substantial net flux is created in transformer coil when the plurality of return electrical circuits are functioning properly. The apparatus further includes a sensing and signalling circuit capable of sensing the presence of a flux in the transformer coil and producing a signal in response thereto. The circuit which the signal triggers has the capacity to deactivate the power.

    摘要: A pneumatically driven vitrectomy probe system includes a movable member disposed within a cylinder to define an enclosed pressure chamber, which has an inlet and an outlet.
