    Abstract: The invention comprises divinylmagnesium, divinylcalcium, divinylstrontium and divinylbarium. They may be prepared by reacting the metal, preferably in a divided state, with divinylmercury under a dry inert atmosphere such as argon or nitrogen. If desired the reaction may be carried out in a solvent such as an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon, an aliphatic ether containing 2 to 12 carbon atoms or an ether of ethylene or diethylene glycol. The reaction temperature is not critical but may be between 0 DEG and 100 DEG C. or higher depending on the solvent used. Methyl allyl carbinol is prepared by reacting divinylmagnesium with 1:2 propylene oxide and hydrolysing.

    Abstract: Divinyl mercury is reacted with an element of Group IIIa of the Periodic Table (Deming). The invention also comprises as new compounds trivinyl aluminium, trivinyl gallium, trivinyl indium and trivinyl gallium: also trivinyl boron when prepared by the process above. It is preferred to carry out the process in a hydrocarbon solvent such as pentane, hexane, heptane, benzene, toluene or xylene. Using no solvent the reaction temperature should be kept below 0-10 DEG C.: use of a solvent permits reaction temperatures up to 25 DEG C. An inert atmosphere (dry nitrogen) is employed to minimise decomposition of the product. Dimethyl vinyl carbinol is prepared by reacting trivinylaluminium with acetone and hydrolysing (see Example II).
