Abstract:
Provided is an antihypertensive agent that is safe and has a mild effect. An antihypertensive agent comprising S-1-propenylcysteine or a salt thereof as an active ingredient.
Abstract:
Among other things, the present invention provides novel isoprenyl compounds capable of effectively modulating inflammatory responses and pharmaceutical, cosmetic, cosmeceutical and topical compositions comprising these isoprenyl compounds. Anti-inflammatory compounds of the present invention are useful in treating or preventing diseases or conditions associated with inflammation. Proinflammatory compounds of the present invention are useful in treating or preventing diseases or conditions associated with suppression of inflammatory responses. Thus, the present invention also provides methods useful in the treatment or prevention of diseases or conditions associated with inflammation as well as methods useful in the treatment or prevention of diseases or conditions associated with suppression of inflammatory responses.
Abstract:
Whilst methodologies for the Kinetic Resolution of alcohols are well established, no analogous direct methods exist for the highly selective, direct catalytic Kinetic Resolution of thiols (i.e., R—SH). The present invention relates to a method for resolving stereoisomeric mixtures of thiols. In particular, the present invention relates to purely organocatalytic mediated resolution of enantiomeric mixtures of thiols without the need for enzymes. Also disclosed are some novel catalysts. Such catalysts may comprise a cinchona alkaloid-derived moiety.

Abstract:
An efficient and highly Markovnikov selective organoactinide-, organolanthanide-, and organozirconium-catalyzed addition of aryl, benzyl, and aliphatic thiols to terminal alkynes is described. The corresponding vinyl sulfides are produced with little or no side-products.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a process for the preparation of a diorganotrisulfide said process by reacting an organic halide and elemental sulfur (&agr;-rhombic) using catalytic copper (II) halide and tin (II) halide in a mixture of organic solvents at 30-70° C.
Abstract:
New sulfurized compounds, their preparation and their use are described. They correspond to the general formula: {[R--S.sub.X --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --].sub.z CH.sub.3-z --(CH.sub.2).sub.P --}.sub.2 S.sub.y, in which R represents a monovalent hydrocarbon radical with 1 to 30 carbon atoms, optionally functionalized; x is a number equal to or greater than 1; z is an integer equal to 1 or 2; when z=1, n is an integer from 0 to 3 and p is an integer from 0 to 3, with n+p being an integer from 0 to 3; when z=2, n is an integer from 1 to 3 and p is an integer from 0 to 3; and y is a number equal to or greater than 1, at last one of the numbers x and y being strictly greater than 1. These sulfurized compounds can be used as extreme-pressure and anti-wear additives in lubricating oils, in particular oils for gear systems and oil for working metals.
Abstract:
Novel compounds have been discovered which impart cooked onion flavor and aroma to foods treated therewith. Said novel compounds are alkyl 1-alkenyl disulfides having the formula: WHEREIN R'' is hydrogen or alkyl and R and R1 are alkyl. Representative compounds are methyl propenyl disulfide, propyl propenyl disulfide, and ethyl propenyl disulfide. Compositions containing said compounds preferably at levels of from 0.01 to 20 percent by weight are also disclosed. Additionally, said compositions may contain other disulfides and trisulfides including novel alkenyl trisulfides having the formula: WHEREIN R7 and R8 are alkyl groups and R6 and R9 are hydrogen or alkyl.
