Abstract: 1,131,147. Vinyl chloride polymer blends. UNIROYAL Inc. 26 May, 1966 [24 June, 1965], No. 23599/66. Headings C3G and C3P. A composition comprises a blend of (1) one or more normally rigid polymers of vinyl chloride containing more than 90% of vinyl chloride, and (2) one or more internally plasticized copolymers being copolymers of vinyl chloride with a vinyl ester of a monocarboxylic acid having 6 to 22 carbon atoms and/or a dialkyl maleate or fumarate in which the alkyl groups have 4 to 20 carbon atoms, the comonomers in the copolymer (2) constituting 10 to 60% of the copolymer and from 1 to 10% of the blend. The polymers may be obtained by conventional techniques or by a process in which the monomers are first copolymerized and vinyl chloride is then graft copolymerized on to the backbone chain so formed. The composition may contain stabilizers such as calcium or lead stearate or dibutyl tin maleate. In the examples, binary and ternary copolymers of vinyl chloride with the following monomers are used as component (2): vinyl stearate, dibutyl maleate, di-2-ethyl-hexyl maleate, dilauryl maleate, and vinyl-2-ethylhexoate, while in Example V a copolymer of vinyl chloride and dilauryl maleate is used as component (1), polyvinyl chloride being used in the remaining examples for this component.
