The invention relates to thermoplastic interpolymers having a certain chemical composition and to their use in thermoplastic molding compounds of polyamides and styrene copolymers and/or graft polymers for the production of improved blends of polyamides and styrene copolymers and/or graft polymers, particularly ABS polymers, having homogeneous surfaces and improved mechanical properties. The interpolymers themselves are produced by compounding of polyamides and copolymers based on styrenes and/or acrylonitrile and/or (meth)acrylates with primary or secondary alcohols and at least one ester of (meth)acrylic acid with a tertiary C.sub.4-10 alcohol in the melt. The interpolymers act as compatibility promoters in the blends and lead to a surprising improvement in a number of properties of thermoplastic molding compounds.

Interpolymers of aromatic polyesters and cross-linked (or partially cross-linked) rubbers and a process for their production in which a mixture of a cross-linked rubber in latex form containing reactive groups and an aqueous solution of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal diphenolate is reacted with a solution of a dicarboxylic acid halide and/or a carbonyl halide in a water-immiscible solvent so that an aromatic polyester forms at the water/organic solvent phase boundary, which polyester goes over into the organic phase and the rubber at the same time also goes into the organic phase. The interpolymer of rubber and organic polyester thus formed is suitable for the production of moulded articles of all kinds by the methods of thermoplastic shaping such as extrusion and injection moulding.

The process for the production of an alloy of cross-linked or partially cross-linked rubbers and aromatic polyesters basically consists of reacting a mixture of a rubber latex and an aqueous solution of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal diphenolate with a solution of a dicarboxylic acid halide and/or a carbonyl halide in a water-immiscible solvent. An aromatic polyester forms at the water/organic solvent phase boundary and goes over into the organic phase. At the same time, the rubber migrates from the aqueous into the organic phase. When the organic phase is separated and the organic solvent removed, the alloy of rubber and oirganic polyester remaining behind is suitable for the production of moulded articles of all kinds.

This invention relates to thermoplastic moulding compounds with improved properties, in particular with reduced water absorption and rigidity and improved impact strength, from polyamides A and a thermoplastic resin copolymer B containing at least one (meth)acrylic acid ester of a tertiary alcohol in quantities of up to 35% by weight in addition to the other monomers such as styrene or (meth)acrylic esters.
