摘要： A method and apparatus for providing multimodal communication outputs information, such as retrieved content, in a first modality. An output modality change command is generated, such as via a multimodal user input interface, or other suitable mechanism. A multimodal communication apparatus and method then reprovides the previously output information as reprovided information in a different output modality in response to receiving the output modality change command. Accordingly, a user or unit may have content delivered in one modality and redelivered in a different preferred modality or modalities. Accordingly, a user or device may request output modalities dynamically so that content can be delivered using a different user preference after the content has already been provided in a first modality.

摘要： A messaging system capable of transmitting messages to receivers which roam between coverage areas. In one configuration, a coverage area (600) is divided into a plurality of zones (605, 610, 615). A single simulcast system identification (SSID) number is assigned which consists of a local identification number which identifies the coverage area (600), a zone identifier which identifies a zone (610) within the coverage area, traffic splitting flags and a frequency. For larger roaming areas, a network is defined as consisting of a plurality of service areas and is identified by network identification information (NID). NID information and/or SSID information along with a priority value is stored in a receiver according to desired coverage and like information is transmitted in the corresponding zone or service area and the roaming pager operates on the frequency having the NID or SSID having the highest priority.

According to some embodiments, the user begins to speak. The user's speech is translated into a textual query and submitted to a search engine. The results of the search are presented to the user. As the user continues to speak, the user's speech query is refined based on the user's further speech. The refined speech query is converted to a textual query which is again submitted to the search engine. The refined results are presented to the user. This process continues as long as the user continues to refine the query. Some embodiments present the textual query to the user and allow the user to use both speech-based and non-speech-based tools to edit the textual query.

摘要： A paging controller (10) schedules the transmission of pages of different protocol types, dynamically, taking into account both the airtime efficiency of transmitting a page of a particular protocol type and the fairness of transmitting pages of that protocol type. The paging controller (10) determines the efficiency of transmitting stored pages for each protocol type based upon the number of code words stored for the pages of the protocol type in a paging queue (27-30) and based upon the delay, if any, that is expected to be encountered in changing to the protocol type. The paging controller (10) determines the fairness of transmitting pages of a particular protocol type based upon the age of the pages of the protocol type that are stored in the paging queue (27-30). The paging controller (10) schedules and encodes only up to a predetermined limited number of batches/frames of pages of the selected protocol type so that if pages of a different protocol type are received by the paging controller (10) that are determined to be more efficiently and fairly transmitted than the currently selected paging type, the paging controller (10) can quickly change to the protocol type of the newly received pages.
