摘要: Resinous compositions curing rapidly to form tough, flexible films comprise 100 parts by weight of an unsaturated alkyd resin, 5-50 parts of a polyhydroxybenzene-formaldehyde resin as defined, 1-30 per cent, by weight of the combined alkyd and polyhydroxybenzene resins, of an unsaturated complex ester as defined, and 0.01-2 per cent, by weight of the composition, of a metallic drier. Suitable alkyd resins are those obtained by reacting unsaturated polybasic organic acids with polyhydric alcohols. The polyhydroxybenzenealdehyde resin is formed by reacting a 1,3-dihydroxy-5(R)-benzene (where R is hydrogen, hydroxyl, halogen or an alkyl radical and not more than one of the 2, 4, 6 positions are substituted) with anhydrous formaldehyde or its polymers. There are specified as polyphenols: resorcinol, orcinol, pyrogallol, 1,3-dihydroxy-5-chloro or 4-chlorobenzene, 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid, 1,3-dihydroxy-5-methyl benzene. 0.9-1.5 moles. aldehyde (paraldehyde, trioxane, polyoxymethylenes) are reacted per mol. polyhydroxybenzene, the reaction being carried out in anhydrous methanol and with a catalyst to obtain an A stage resin. Complex unsaturated esters specified are o ,o 1-dimethyl-, diallyl-, dibenzyl-ethylene maleate, -diallyl propylene maleate, -tri-(monoallyl maleate) glyceride and their preparation is described (see Group IV (b)). Examples of suitable compositions are: (1) 100 parts diethylene glycol-glyceryl-maleate-sebacate (50 per cent solids in toluene and hexane), 20 parts resorcinol-formaldehyde resin (60 per cent solids in methanol), 10 parts o ,o 1-diethyl ethylene maleate, 1 part metallic drier; (2) diethyl glycol - glyceryl - maleate - sebacate resin, resorcinol-formaldehyde resin, diallyl propylene maleate and drier; (3) glyceryl-maleate-sebacate resin, resorcinol-formaldehyde resin, dimethyl ethylene maleate and drier.ALSO:Complex unsaturated esters are obtained by reacting a polyhydric alcohol with sufficient unsaturated dibasic organic acid to provide one mol. acid for each hydroxyl group of the alcohol and then further reacting the resulting acid half ester with sufficient monohydric alcohol, saturated or unsaturated, to provide a hydroxy group for each free carboxyl group. Specified reactants are polyhydric alcohols-ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, diethylene glycol, glycerol, pentaerythritol, hexamethylene glycol, trimethylene glycol; acids-maleic, fumaric, citraconic acids, citraconic and maleic anhydrides; monohydric alcohols-ethanol, methanol, propanol, allyl, methyallyl or benzyl alcohols. Specified complex esters are o ,o 1-dimethyl ethylene maleate, -diallyl ethylene maleate, -dibenzyl-ethylene maleate, -diallyl propylene maleate, -tri-(monoallyl maleate) glyceride. They are employed as constituents of resinous compositions containing alkyd and phenol-aldehyde resins (see Group IV (a)).

摘要: Thermosetting resinous moulding compositions comprise (A) 10 to 70 parts by weight of a finely-divided solid filler of average particle size below 1 micron and (B) 90 to 30 parts of a polyester resin derived by heating above 150 DEG C. but not exceeding 250 DEG C. (a) one mol. of at least one unsaturated dicarboxylic acid selected from fumaric acid, maleic acid, maleic anhydride, citraconic acid and citraconic anhydride; (b) 3 to 5 mols. of adipic acid; (c) 7 to 9 mols. of succinic acid; (d) 0.5 to 5 mols. of propylene glycol; and (e) 14 to 9 mols. of ethylene glycol, the glycols providing at least 5 but not over 15 per cent numerical excess of hydroxyl over carboxyl groups. Up to 20 mol. per cent of the glycols may be replaced by higher glycols, e.g. diethylene glycol, 1,3-butylene glycol, triethylene glycol and neopentylene glycol, and 0.1 to 0.75 mols. of glycerol may also be included. Specified fillers are silica, calcium carbonate, aluminium silicate, magnesium silicate, talc, iron oxides, diatomaceous earth, hydrated alumina, hydrated silicates, mica, kaolin, bentonite and glass. The filler particles may be coated with resins, e.g. a melamine resin, soaps, e.g. aluminium and magnesium stearates, oils, e.g. tall oil, or fatty acids, e.g. stearic acid. Up to 30 per cent of the filler may be replaced by fibrous materials, e.g. asbestos, cotton, nylon, acrylonitrile resin and glass fibres. Plasticisers, e.g. tricresyl phosphate and dioctyl phthalate, inhibitors, e.g. hydroquinone, resorcinol, tannin, sym-alpha, beta-naphthyl p-phenylene diamine and N-phenyl-beta-naphthylamine, and, prior to use, catalysts, e.g. benzoyl peroxide, tertiary butyl hydroperoxide, ditertiary butyl peroxide, tertiary butyl perbenzoate and ditertiary butyl diperphthalate, may be added. The compositions may be used to form electrical insulation.

摘要: An admixture of (1) from 55 to 70 percent by weight of hydrated alumina and (2) from 30 to 45 percent by weight of a petroleum oil extended ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, containing from 20 to 100 phr. of oil, is molded about electrical apparatus to provide insulation for components thereof. The hydrated alumina is advantageously finely divided so that a major portion or substantially all particles are less than 2 microns. The terpolymer is derived from the reaction of an admixture of (I) from about 85 to 99 molar percent of a mixture of (a) about 3o to 70 molar percent of ethylene and (b) about 30 to 70 molar percent of propylene and (II) from about 1 to 15 molar percent of a diene having isolated or nonconjugated double bonds, at least one of the double bonds of the diene being terminally located.
