    Abstract: An appliance includes a housing defining an interior cabinet; and a crisper drawer disposed within the interior cabinet. The crisper drawer includes a base, walls, and lid to define a cavity for receiving food items to be stored in the crisper drawer. The lid selectively closes the crisper drawer to limit air flow to and from the cavity. One or more of the base, the walls, and the lid define an opening and include a humidity membrane disposed within the opening. The humidity membrane includes a seal therearound for sealing the opening, wherein the seal of the humidity membrane retains moisture and limits leakage of humidity from the crisper drawer.

    Abstract: A refrigerator includes a rear assembly panel coupled with an assembly cover panel that includes at least one vent. At least one circulation fan is positioned between the rear assembly panel and the assembly cover panel and is proximate the at least one vent. A filter is positioned between the rear assembly panel and the assembly cover panel and is coupled to a photocatalyst to form an activated carbon filter. A light-emitting diode (LED) panel assembly includes a plurality of LEDs positioned on the rear assembly panel and is positioned to project light on the activated carbon filter. An air circulation path extends through the at least one vent and the activated carbon filter and is configured to direct air along the air circulation path, and the activated carbon filter is configured to filter airborne bacteria and particulate matter from the air as the air passes through the activated carbon filter.

The refrigerator additionally includes a first fan assembly positioned on an interior surface of a first cabinet wall, and a second fan assembly positioned on the interior surface of a second cabinet wall. The first and second fan assemblies each include: two or more circulation fans; a filter coupled to a photocatalyst to form an activated filter; and a plurality of UV LEDs positioned to project light on the activated filter. An air circulation path is configured to direct air born bacteria and particulate matter within the storage compartment contemporaneously into the first and second fan assemblies using the two or more circulation fans and circulate filtered air into the storage compartment through the activated filter disposed in the air circulation path.

    Abstract: An appliance includes a cabinet, an interior cavity defined by the cabinet, a storage compartment positioned within the interior cavity that supports a temporarily stored item, a temperature control system, a gas detector, and a scanning apparatus that has at least one camera and is configured to record and store image data associated with a user's preference. The scanning apparatus conducts first and second data capturing phases. A difference between first and second data sets is analyzed to produce a current inventory manifest. The appliance also includes a weight scale and a controller. The controller evaluates a location of the temporarily stored item based on the image data and determines remaining contents of the temporarily stored item based on data from the weight scale. The controller determines a preferred air velocity for the storage compartment based upon data collected from the gas detector and the weight scale.
