    摘要: A quick-adjust draw rod positioning nut which is attachable to a machine's chuck and/or de-chuck prime mover via a base portion. The positioning nut includes an engagement portion preferably comprising at least two segments that can be held in a collapsed position, where the segments threadably engage a draw rod, or an expanded position, where the segments are out of engagement with the draw rod, depending on the presence or positioning of a ring. In the collapsed position, the engagement portion can be disengaged from the base to permit rotation of the engagement portion and thereby effecting axial movement of the draw rod in order to achieve proper axial positioning of the draw rod in the machine. The engagement portion can be locked in one of a plurality of incrementally spaced rotational positions to adjust the axial position of the draw rod to a desired position.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to an arbor chuck workholding assembly comprising an arbor chuck (2), outer ring (6), clamp ring (8) and backing ring (10). The arbor chuck comprises a plurality of holding angle lugs (18) and ejecting angle lugs (20) located about its periphery. The outer ring (6) comprises a plurality of complementary holding angle ramps (22) and ejecting angle ramps (24) located on its inner diameter surface. A machine spindle (4) is rotated to engage the holding angled lugs (18) with the holding angle ramps (22) such that the arbor chuck will be drawn into position against the spindle. For disengaging, a reverse rotation of the spindle will result in ejecting angle ramps (24) engaging ejecting angle lugs(20) to loosen the arbor chuck from the spindle. Therefore, no tools are required to secure the arbor chuck to the machine spindle.

    摘要: A milling cutterhead provided with slots for receiving indexable, disc-shaped cutting bits mounted in individual nest plates. The cutterhead is a generally cylindrical body comprising two concentric body parts, namely, a main member having a circumferential rim portion and an interior ring member which mates with and fits tightly within that rim portion. The nest-receiving slots are cut through the full radial width of the rim portion, and the outer circumference of the interior ring forms the inner walls of the slots. Each nest plate supports more than one-half the circumference of its respective indexable bit at three or more spaced locations so that any inserted bit, no matter how indexed, will have either its radial or axial diameter substantially aligned in a predetermined plane, thereby assuring that the cutting edge of each indexable disc-shaped bit will be positioned to an axial or radial accuracy equal to or less than one-half the diametral tolerance for such disc-shaped bits. With such assured accuracy, no further truing of the individual bits is required when they are indexed. Further, the interior ring design of the cutterhead reduces the probability of stress-related failures and provides increased rigidity needed for high-speeding cutting, and separate tightening wedges permit cutting discs to be readily indexed and/or changed without disturbing the nest plates and without necessitating further truing of such indexed or newly-inserted bits.
