    摘要: A closure mechanism for hinged devices having an upper member and a lower member. The closure mechanism includes a track disposed on the upper member and at least one support arm pivotally attached to the lower member. A biasing element is adapted to urge the support arm to engage the upper member and urge it to pivot to an open configuration. The arm includes a contact element that engages the track such that an upper end of the arm moves along the track as the upper member pivots to an open position. The arm includes a hook that engages a positive stop to prevent over-rotation of the arm. In other embodiments of the closure mechanism, the arm is pivotally attached to the upper member and moves against the lower member, and the biasing element extends between the arm and either the upper member or the lower member.

    摘要: A method of scanning a target image and inhibiting backtrack artifacts from the scanned image comprises the steps of initiating a scan on a flat bed scanner, the flat bed scanner comprising at least a scanbar, a memory buffer and a motion control pattern comprised of a plurality of spaced elements, each element having an angled portion with respect to the motion of the scanbar; acquiring scan data comprising a motion control pattern data and an image data with said scanbar; storing the previously acquired scan data in a memory buffer; querying whether the memory buffer reaches a preselected full threshold; acquiring a last valid scan data; stopping and backtracking the scanbar when the memory buffer preselected full threshold is met; and, inhibiting backtrack artifacts by one of a first real-time position analysis or a post-processing analysis.

    摘要: A maintenance station for an ink jet printer comprises two modules supported from the printer middle frame by a tongue and groove arrangement and secured in place only by retaining elements integrally formed with the middle frame. The first module includes a wiper element and a cap to provide an air seal around the nozzles. The wiper and cap are mounted on a pivoted rocker element so that as the wiper is moved toward the printhead the cap is moved away therefrom and visa-versa. The second module carries a small DC motor, a nut with a pair of forked arms, and gearing for converting bidirectional rotation of the motor into linear reciprocal motion of the forked arms. The forked arms engage projections on the rocker element so that the wiper or cap is moved toward or away from the printhead depending on the direction of rotation of the motor. In a first position of the rocker element the wiper is positioned in the path of the printhead so as to wipe the nozzles as the printhead is moved back and forth. In a second position the cap presses against the printhead to form an air seal around the nozzles. In a third position the wiper and cap are both spaced away from the path of the printhead and below the plane of the record feed path. The printer controller senses motor current and controls positioning of the rocker element without the need for a position feedback encoder.

    摘要: A wiper for an ink jet printhead comprises a monolithic body having a mounting portion and a head portion, the head portion including a wiper portion and a beam portion for supporting the wiper portion on the mounting portion. The mounting portion has a bottom surface and a slot centered in the bottom surface where the slot extends toward the head portion from the bottom surface and receives a mounting beam that is movable. The wiper is characterized in that the wiper portion has two non-parallel side surfaces which diverge from the beam portion and intersect a flat top surface of the wiper portion at acute angles so as to form two parallel wiping edges which may alternately wipe the printhead as the printhead moves back and forth relative to the wiper. Because the side surfaces of the head portion form angles of less than 90.degree. with the top surface there is less tendency for the head to trap and ride on ink wiped from the printhead. The beam portion has a hole extending through it thus making it more flexible. This permits a harder material to be used in the wiper without causing damage to the printhead. The wiper is normally supported on the opposite side of the plane of record feed from the printhead and may be raised into the path of travel of the printhead. An optional blotter may be provided for absorbing from the wiper the ink which is wiped from the printhead.

    摘要: The printhead of an ink jet printer is mounted on a printhead carrier for reciprocal movement on a carrier guide rod above a record feed path. A bi-directional motor drives a drive belt attached to the carrier to thereby pull the printhead back and forth. The belt is attached to the carrier at two points which are spaced from the axis of the carrier guide rod, one point being above the axis and the other point being below the axis. The arrangement is such that any tilt of the printhead carrier in a vertical plane, resulting from a pulling force of the drive belt, is always in the same direction regardless of the direction in which the printhead carrier is pulled. This improves the accuracy of ink dot placement thereby giving better print quality. The drive belt is mounted on pulleys which are positioned such that there is an upward incline from each attachment point to a pulley. The carrier is provided with feet which ride in a groove in a carrier guide. When the belt is driven, an upward component of force is applied to the carrier at the point where the belt is attached to the carrier. This upward force tends to rotate the printhead carrier about the guide rod, thereby forcing the carrier feet into engagement with the groove in the carrier guide. This reduces the tendency of the carrier to rotate in a horizontal plane as a pulling force is applied to it.
