    摘要: A signal source generates a phase-modulated output signal responsive to a phase-modulation signal. A phase splitter splits the phase-modulated output signal into two or more phase-offset output signals. A switch provides a selected one of the phase-offset output signals from the phase splitter to a transmit amplifier circuit. Large phase transitions in the phase-modulation signal are detected and reduced to decrease modulation bandwidth requirements at the signal source. When a phase transition in the phase-modulation signal is reduced, the switch is coherently switched from one phase-offset output signal to another to substantially restore the full phase transition in the output signal presented to the transmit amplifier circuit. In this manner, the transmit amplifier receives substantially the same phase transitions as are in the original phase-modulation signal.

    摘要: The wireless receiver of the present invention accommodates dual-carrier Evolved EDGE without significantly impacting existing receiver architectures. The inventive receiver comprises a shared local oscillator and two image-rejecting downconverters. The local oscillator generates a local oscillator frequency between two carrier frequencies of adjacent radio channels. The receiver receives a signal in each of the adjacent radio channels. In a dual-carrier mode, a first image-rejecting downconverter uses the local oscillator frequency to downconvert a first signal received in the first radio channel while rejecting a second signal received in the second radio channel. A second image-rejecting downconverter uses the local oscillator frequency to downconvert the second signal while rejecting the first signal. In a diversity mode, the first and second image-rejecting downconverters use the local oscillator frequency to downconvert the signal received in one of the radio channels while rejecting the signal received in the other radio channel.

    摘要: The wireless communication device and corresponding method described herein selectively switches between a single-frequency mode, such as appropriate for an EDGE network, and a multiple-frequency mode, such as appropriate for a multi-carrier EDGE network. Accordingly, a transmitting wireless communication device selectively switches between a single-channel mapping unit, used during the single-frequency mode, and a multi-channel mapping unit, used during the multiple-frequency mode. The multi-channel mapping unit modulates input data to output a modulated data stream for each of multiple adjacent frequency channels that, when combined, produce a multiple-frequency signal with reduced peak-to-average ratio. A receiving wireless communication device selectively switches between a single-channel demodulator, used during the single-frequency mode, and a multi-channel demodulator, used during the multiple-frequency mode.

    摘要: Degradation of the OFDM signal carrying DVB-H content, caused by GSM burst transmission, is overcome without the need for hardware to constrain the GSM transmission spectrum by the modulating of the OFDM signal and utilizing the interleaving and Forward Error Correction (FEC) defined in the DVB-H standard to correct the errors caused by GSM transmission interference. A pattern in time and frequency of the scattered pilots in the OFDM signal is detected during a period of no burst transmission. During burst transmissions from the transmitter, scattered pilots are inserted into the received OFDM signal according to the pattern. An FFT demodulator utilizes the inserted scattered pilots to perform frame synchronization when the OFDM signal is degraded by interference from the burst transmission. The demodulated signal is de-interleaved, and bit errors due to the burst transmission interference are corrected by FEC decoders.
