摘要: A system for manipulating a rotational device using a flexible guide rod with an external rod feature along its length to engage a rotational device with a complementary interior channel feature along its length. A driver having a handle and coupling element is coupled to the rotational device while the flexible guide rod extends from the handle, through the coupling element, and into the interior channel of the rotational device in order to rotate from within along the length of the device.

摘要: A catheter for introduction into a body cavity comprises a flexible outer tube with a handle member and proximal and distal ends and a flexible inner tube with a holder. The exterior surface of the outer tube has a first cross sectional shape along at least a portion of its length with the inferior surface having a second cross section shape along at feast a portion of its length. The inner tube has an exterior surface having a third cross section shape along at least a portion of its length. The third cross section shape has a radius less than said second cross section shape and is configured to prevent more than a predetermined rotation when received within in the second cross section shape of the outer tube. The holder has a holder stop proximate its distal face with the distance between the proximal face of the handle member and the stop being equal to the length of the membrane. This ensures that once the stop contacts the handle member, the membrane will be fully deployed.

摘要: A flexible shaft, having a first end and, a second end and capable of being bent about its axis while transferring rotary motion from a device to tool is disclosed. The shaft, manufactured from a rigid material, has at least one flexible segment having two sinuous slots ascending in a helical path from a common start point in opposite rotational directions. In other segments the slots can be a single helical slot, double helical slots, parallel or crossing, or circumferential. The helical paths can vary within each segment or from segment to segment.

The shaft, manufactured from a rigid material, has at least one flexible segment, each flexible segment have at least one sinuous slot ascending in a helical path. With multiple segments, the helical path of the slots can be opposite or the same. With one or more segments having multiple slots, the slots can be parallel or have opposite ascensions, thereby crossing one another. The helical paths can vary within each segment or from segment to segment.

摘要: The invention relates to a flexible spine stabilization and/or vertebral replacement system and having one or more flexible segments within a spinal element. The flexibility is created through the use of at least one circumferential slot formed in the spinal element. One or more fasteners are connected to the distal and proximal attachments and secured to the vertebra. The spinal element can have an elastomeric material in any or all of the following combinations: filling at least one of the at least one slot; at least a portion of the inside core; encompass at least a portion of the exterior diameter. Vertebral replacement is achieved by securing the spinal element to healthy inferior and superior vertebra through use of securing members.

摘要: A device and method for the obtaining a tissue biopsy and the delivery of a material to provide hemostatis, therapeutic agents or marker material is described that can be used in conjunction with either an aspiration biopsy or a cutting needle biopsy device. The device has an application chamber through which the biopsy mechanism, either a cutting needle device or aspiration needle, passes through. The mechanism for an aspiration biopsy has a biopsy cannula of constant cross section over its entire length connected to an aspiration and collecting chamber and at least one application channel of constant or varying cross section connected to a dispensing chamber integrally connected with the aspiration chamber. The cutting biopsy mechanism has a mechanical or electromechanical mechanism to rapidly fire a stylet with a biopsy trough into the intended tissue and then fire a biopsy cannula over the stylet to sever and retain tissue that has protruded into the biopsy trough. At least one application channel is formed by a tube centrically slipped over the biopsy cannula wall. To enable the collection of tissue specimens, the distal segment of the application channel forms a close fitting and concentric sheath around the biopsy cannula. The versatility of the invention permits its use in many applications, including, for example, liver biopsies, breast biopsies, laparoscopic surgery, and lymphadenectomy procedures.

摘要: The invention provides a cutter head that reduces the cutting force and number of reamers required by increasing the depth of cut or cutting length. The cutting head uses at least one tooth placed along the length of flutes formed within the body of the cutting head. The grooves forming the flutes can follow a first helical path along the body length, maintaining a substantially constant path over a major portion of the entire length in relation to the axes or, alternatively, have a constantly changing path. A second pattern can follow a second, contiguous helical path that has a second radial orientation to the axis. The teeth can be formed from a sinusoidal wave form comprised of a continuous radius going from convex to concave, with each of the teeth having a predetermined pitch from the crest to the base. In another embodiment the crest of the teeth on the first flute is offset axially by a predetermined distance from the teeth on the adjacent flutes. The offset can be determined by dividing the pitch on each flute by the number of flutes. The cutting head can, in an alternate embodiment, have a notch within each of the flutes. The notch forms a pair of teeth, the crests of each of the teeth having either a substantially equal radius or a different radius, depending upon the placement of the notch.
