摘要: An antenna array for use with a mobile subscriber unit in a wireless network communications system. The invention utilizes a multiplicity of resonant strips provided within the ground plane. These strips couple to an equal multiplicity of monopole array elements located on top of the ground plane. This approach increases antenna gain by more efficiently utilizing the available ground plane area. Additionally, since the active element is on top of the ground plane, the antenna array sensitivity is decreased because the direct coupling between the antenna and external environmental factors is minimized. The multiplicity of antenna elements are electrically isolated from the ground plane. Each antenna element has a bottom end located proximal to the ground plane, and is aligned along a respective antenna axis that is substantially perpendicular to the top side. Each resonant strip has a top end electrically connected to the ground plane and a bottom end spaced apart from a bottom side of the ground plane, and is aligned along the antenna axis of a corresponding antenna element. The multiplicity of antenna elements and the multiplicity of resonant strips are equally spaced about the perimeter of the ground plane, and the combination of each antenna element with a respective resonant strip provides a unbalanced dipole antenna element so that the multiplicity of dipole antenna elements form a composite beam which may be positionally directed along a horizon that is substantially parallel to the ground plane.

摘要: An antenna array formed on a deformable dielectric material or substrate includes a center element and plurality of radial elements extending from a center hub. In the operative mode, the radial elements are folded upwardly into an approximately vertical position, with the center element at the center of the hub and the radial elements circumferentially surrounding the center element. In one embodiment the center element serves an active element of the antenna array and the radial elements are controllable in a directive or reflective state to effect a directive beam pattern from the antenna array. When not in use, the antenna elements are deformed into a plane and can therefore be integrated into a housing for compact storage. In a phased array embodiment, the center element is absent and the plurality of radial elements, are controllable to steer the antenna beam.

摘要: A lighter-than-air aircraft includes a gas envelope for containing a buoyant gas, and a solar panel is carried by a predetermined portion of the gas envelope. A solar sensor is used for determining a direction of the sun. A propulsion system carried by the gas envelope orients the gas envelope so that the solar panel is oriented in the direction of the sun based upon the solar sensor. A navigation controller cooperates with the propulsion system to move the lighter-than-air aircraft along a desired flight path while the solar panel is oriented in the direction of the sun.

摘要: A lighter-than-air aircraft includes a gas envelope for containing a buoyant gas, and a propulsion system is carried by the gas envelope. A solar panel is carried by the gas envelope for powering the propulsion system when generating sufficient power. A closed loop combustion generating system is also carried by the gas envelope for powering the propulsion system when the solar panel is not generating sufficient power. The fuel for the closed loop combustion generator is regenerated by the solar panel from its exhaust when the solar panel is generating sufficient power.

摘要: Work is produced from heat in a continuous cycle. A flow of first working fluid is provided to a high pressure boiler to produce a flow of first working fluid vapor. A second working fluid in vaporous form is compressed, after which a third working fluid is formed by mixing the first working fluid vapor and the second working fluid. Thermal energy is transferred directly between the first and second working fluids in the mixing chamber exclusive of any intervening structure. A refrigeration loop containing a fourth working fluid extracts thermal energy from a low grade thermal energy source and moves the thermal energy to the first working fluid and/or the second working fluid.

摘要: A solar energy collection system for use in generating electric power from solar energy is provided. The system is comprised of a solar energy collector (16), a lens (14), and a support structure (12) for supporting the lens. The lens is comprised of one or more shaped surfaces (300) configured for modifying a path of incident light. In this regard, the lens provides an optical path which is used to expose the solar energy collector to a source of solar radiation (116). As such, the lens is interposed between the solar energy collector and an anticipated location of a source of solar radiation. The support structure includes an inflatable chamber defining an interior volume within which a gas is constrained. The inflatable chamber is comprised of a non-porous membrane (114). According to an embodiment of the invention, the lens is supported in position by the non-porous membrane. According to another embodiment of the invention, the lens is comprised of a portion of the non-porous membrane.
