Abstract: A multi-piece rim assembly comprises a rim base, sealing member, lock ring and bead seat band. The sealing member and lock ring have specified positions such that each is at least partially disposed in an annular groove in the radially outer surface of the rim base, with the lock ring being nearer to an axial end of the rim base than the sealing member. The bead seat band is coaxial with and slidably mounted around the rim base. When all of the components of the rim assembly are in their specified positions, the bead seat band engages the sealing member to form an airtight seal. If the entire lock ring is not in its specified position, an axial end of the bead seat band contacts the lock ring and prevents the airtight seal from being formed.

Abstract: An annular ring-shaped run flat device is used in tires to permit continued use of the tire even when the tire is operating at low pressure or is completely deflated. This device is comprised of a rigid section and a non-rigid section. The tire, when it collapses, due to a reduction in pressure, comes to rest on the surface of the non-rigid, resilient, impact resistant section. This device is easy to assemble, can be used with conventional multi-piece rims, is light weight, durable and capable of absorbing impact under both inflated and deflated conditions. The device can also be used as a positive and non-positive bead spacer to prevent dismounting of the tire beads when tire pressure drops.

Abstract: A channel with sliding clamp and rod arrangement for leveling a ladder comprising a base unit of a hollow rectangular shape adapted to fit over the leg of the ladder. The base unit has interior walls spaced apart sufficiently to accommodate the ladder leg. Each of the walls has formed thereon a plurality of spaced splices that slop outwardly and downwardly away from the ladder leg. A clamp member comprises a generally rectangular block that has formed thereon sloping splices that fit into the grooves or spaces between the splices of the base unit. Clamp member has a bore that adjustably and securely retains a support rod, which has a swivel foot at one end. The end of the clamp member that is to be placed adjacent the ladder leg and the opposing interior surface of the base unit have a substantially V-shaped configuration to insure slip free purchase against the ladder leg.

Abstract: A compound expanding piston for an internal combustion engine. The piston includes a crown or head and a skirt, with the skirt depending from the crown. A sleeve is provided in telescoping arrangement with the skirt, the sleeve in one embodiment including vertical tabs which extend into corresponding vertical slots formed within the walls of the piston skirt. The telescoping concentric relationship of the sleeve and the skirt may be either with the skirt external to the sleeve or vice versa, in alternative embodiments. The skirt and the sleeve are kinematically linked to each other and to the crankshaft of the engine, so that the piston crown or head is raised to a maximum elevation at both the end of the compression stroke and the end of the expansion stroke of the piston. The piston crown and skirt are lowered to a lower elevation relative to the sleeve during the balance of the work stroke, the sleeve being directly connected to the crankshaft of the engine by a connecting rod.
