    Abstract: A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by one or more processors of a computing system, cause the computing system to perform actions. The actions include receiving a pool of known fabricable designs for a physical device, generating proposed fabricable designs capable of being fabricated by a fabrication system based on pre-determined design rules, obtaining metadata characterizing the proposed fabricable designs, and updating the pool of the known fabricable designs by adding one or more of the proposed fabricable designs to the pool based, at least in part, on the metadata.

    Abstract: In some embodiments, techniques are provided for verifying that a fabrication system can fabricate a proposed segmented design. A paintbrush pattern that represents capabilities of the fabrication system is determined. One or more forbidden patterns that the fabrication system is not capable of fabricating are determined based on the paintbrush pattern. The proposed segmented design is then searched for the forbidden patterns. If any forbidden patterns are found, the proposed segmented design is determined to not be fabricable by the fabrication system. If no forbidden patterns are found, then the proposed segmented design is determined to be fabricable by the fabrication system.

    Abstract: In some embodiments, a method of ensuring fabricability of a segmented design for a physical device to be fabricated by a fabrication system is provided. A proposed segmented design is searched for forbidden patterns in a set of forbidden patterns. Segments from the proposed segmented design that appear in forbidden patterns are added to a set of unfabricable segments. A material indicated by at least one unfabricable segment from the set of unfabricable segments is changed to create an updated segmented design, and the updated segmented design is searched for the forbidden patterns in the set of forbidden patterns. In response to determining that the updated segmented design includes at least one forbidden pattern, the adding, changing, and searching actions are repeated. In response to determining that the updated segmented design does not include any forbidden patterns, an indication is generated that the updated segmented design is fabricable.

    Abstract: A method for producing an experimental output satisfying an objective includes conducting an experimental execution process including applying a selection criterion to select an approach to determining a set of parameters for a set of experiments, and determining a first set of parameters for a first experiment according to the selected approach based on one or more of (i) a predicted relationship between a set of parameters and a characteristic of a corresponding experimental output, (ii) the measured characteristic of a second experimental output from a second experiment executed according to a second set of parameters, (iii) the objective, and (iv) a parameter selection rule. Conducting an experimental execution process includes controlling execution of the first set of experiments according to the first set of parameters, where execution of each first experiment includes conducting the experiment according to the first set of parameters to produce a first experimental output; and measuring the characteristic of the first experimental output. The method includes determining whether the objective is satisfied by the experimental execution process, and, when the objective is not satisfied by the experimental execution process, conducting a subsequent experimental execution process.
