摘要: A display includes pixels distributed in a pixel array of rows and columns that are grouped in mutually exclusive pixel clusters on a display substrate in a display area. Cluster controllers are disposed on the display substrate and are each connected to the pixels in a pixel cluster to control the pixels to emit light. A display controller external to the display area is connected to each row of pixels in each pixel cluster with a row wire. Each row of pixels in each pixel cluster can be connected with a cluster row wire and the corresponding cluster row wires of each pixel cluster can be connected together. The cluster controllers can be disposed between pixels in the pixel cluster or between adjacent pixel clusters on the display substrate.

The pixel-control signal can be a temporally modulated signal such as a pulse-width modulation signal or a pulse-density modulation signal. A display can comprise an array of pixels and a display controller. The pixel or the display controller can include the variable-frequency clock signal or the pixel-control signal generator, or both.

摘要: A hybrid display includes pixel clusters and a display controller operable to provide pixel values to the cluster controllers. Each pixel cluster incudes (i) pixels; (ii) a pixel memory for storing fewer than two pixel values for each of the pixels; and (iii) a cluster controller operable to (a) control the pixels to emit light corresponding to the pixel values, (b) receive pixel values, and (c) store the pixel values in the pixel memory. The pixel values are digital values and each of the cluster controllers is operable to receive pixel values from the display controller and store the pixel values in the pixel memory at the same time that the cluster controller controls the pixels to emit light corresponding to the pixel values.

The pixel controller is operable to provide the variable power signal at a constant first power for a first time period and provide the variable power signal at a constant second power different from the constant first power for a second time period.

Each column of components is connected to a column wire. The driver provides a drive signal in response to the control signal and the multiplexer comprises an output connected to each column wire and an input connected to each driver and connects the inputs to the outputs in response to a multiplex signal from the passive-matrix controller. The components can be inorganic micro-light-emitting diodes.

摘要: A constant-current passive-matrix array includes a two-dimensional array of pixels. Rows of pixels are each connected in common to a row wire and to a row controller operable to select one of the row wires with a row-select signal. Columns of pixels are each connected in common to a column wire and to a column controller. The column controller provides received pixel values to different column-control circuits, each connected to a column wire. Each column-control circuit comprises constant-current sources and a constant-current-source selection circuit operable to individually and separately enable each of the constant-current sources in response to the pixel value with a constant-current-source selection signal. The outputs of the constant-current sources are electrically connected in parallel to a column wire and the constant-current sources together are operable to output a constant-current column-data signal in response to the constant-current-source selection signals. The array can be a display or display cluster.
