摘要:
A method for characterizing a magnetic-recording system for the presence of adjacent-track interference and far-track interference. The method includes writing a plurality of repeating pulse-waveforms on a data track of a magnetic-recording disk at a write element of a magnetic-recording head. The method further includes reading a plurality of read-back signals from the magnetic-recording disk over a band of pseudo-data tracks offset from the data track by corresponding pseudo-data-track offsets in a radial direction of the magnetic-recording disk at a read element of the magnetic-recording head. In addition, the method includes displaying a magnetic-recording-signature map synthesized from the read-back signals from the magnetic-recording disk.

The HDD also includes a synchronized rewrite controller for synchronizing a plurality of rewrites of a data pattern on a location of the track of the magnetic disk and the HDD includes a write head controlled by the synchronized rewrite controller for writing the data pattern on the location of the data track and rewriting the data pattern a plurality of times on the location in synchronization with a prior writing of the data pattern on the data track.

A perpendicular magnetic write head having improved Bit Error Rate (BER), Adjacent Track Interference (ATI) and Far Track Interference (FTI). The write head includes a write pole and a trailing wrap-around magnetic shield. A permanent magnetic is located at either outer side of the shield. These magnets are magnetized to have magnetizations that are oriented in the same direction, in a direction that is perpendicular to the track direction and parallel with the air bearing surface.

摘要:
A method for optimizing design parameters of a magnetic write head. The method involves compiling a table of data points for a plurality of design parameters. An experimentally derived optimal design point is determined a first set of tests are performed at this experimentally determined design point. A three dimensional response surface is generated based on the testing. Then, a projected optimal design point is determined from the three dimensional response surface. Another test is performed using this projected optimal design point, and a convergence is determined by comparing the results of the first and second tests. If the convergence is within a predetermined value, then the process is complete. If the convergence is not within the predetermined value, then the process is repeated using the most recent projected optimal design point.

Track pitch in a hard disk drive is selected to satisfy the requirements of both off-track capacity (OTC) and adjacent track interference (ATI). The invention separately measures the track pitch requirements for OTC and ATI. The track pitch for the drive is set with the larger of the OTC and ATI track pitches. The OTC track pitch is measured with a 747 curve, and the ATI track pitch is measured by the positions of adjacent tracks at which the on-track error rate is not worse than a given value after the targeted number of adjacent track writes in the ATI requirement.

A hard-disk drive (HDD) with a current adjustment component is provided. The current adjustment component changes an amount of current to a magnetic-recording head of the HDD to cause a change in the strength of a magnetic write field produced by the magnetic-recording head in response to a determination that a present position of the magnetic-head head is not in a desired position. To illustrate, in response to a determination that the present position of the magnetic-recording head is further away from an edge of a current track being written than a desired position of the magnetic-recording head, the current adjustment component increases the current to the magnetic-recording head to cause an increase in the strength of the magnetic write field. The change in the strength of the magnetic write field causes data, written by the magnetic-recording head, to be located at a desired location on the magnetic-recording disk.
