摘要: An exemplary device and method for microfluidic transport is disclosed as providing inter alia a passive check valve (100), a fluid inlet channel (210), a fluid outlet channel (220) and a pumping cavity (240). The fluid inlet channel (210) is generally configured to flow a fluid through the check valve (100). The check valve (100) generally provides substantially passive means for preventing or otherwise decreasing the incidence of purged outlet fluid re-entering either the pumping cavity (240) or the fluid inlet channel (210). Accordingly, the reduction of backflow generally tends to enhance overall pumping performance and efficiency. Disclosed features and specifications may be variously controlled, adapted or otherwise optionally modified to improve micropump operation in any microfluidic application. Exemplary embodiments of the present invention representatively provide for substantially self-priming micropumps that may be readily integrated with, for example, existing portable ceramic technologies for the improvement of device package form factors, weights and other manufacturing and/or device performance metrics.

摘要: An electronic device (100) for performing intelligent operations includes a housing (112), a manually operable input (118, 122) for providing information to the electronic device, and a material (124) positioned between the manually operable input and the housing. An electromechanical transducer (218, 220) has a mechanical connection consisting of to the manually operable input and an electrical connection for receiving power, wherein substantially all of a mechanical output from the electromechanical transducer is provided to the manually operable input, the material preventing the mechanical output from being transmitted from the manually operable input to the housing. An electric circuit (210) is coupled mechanically to the housing and electronically to the electromechanical transducer for driving the electromechanical transducer in response to the intelligent operations so as to cause the electromechanical transducer to generate a tactile response that can be felt by a user through the manually operable input.

摘要: A tactile interface for an electronic device includes a compliant portion, a first input sensor embedded in the compliant portion and a second input sensor. The first and second sensors produce differential output signal in responsive to tactile input forces applied in at least a common dimension or about a common axis. A processor detects and interprets the differential output signals as a tactile input at the touch input device.

摘要: An apparatus is provided for detecting an atmospheric component. The apparatus comprises one or more arrays, wherein each array comprises one or more colorimetric reagents. A material encapsulating the colorimetric reagents of each array is capable of being at least partially removed to expose the colorimetric reagents of a selected array to the atmosphere. An imager detects colors of the one or more colorimetric reagents in the selected array. Circuitry then determines changes in colors of the one or more colorimetric reagents within the selected array.

摘要: An optical waveguide (106) with directional microprisms (116) and multidirectional light sources (110)(112) are provided for providing overlapping morphing images (104) and information (102) on a display (124) of a touch screen mobile phone or other electronic device (100). Microprisms can be patterned in the shape of a particular design, character, icon or other image. The microprisms can include: first microprisms (118) sensitive to light propagating in only one direction; second microprisms (120) sensitive to light propagating in a different direction, and a third microprisms (122) sensitive to light propagation in multiple directions. When light is directed into the waveguide (106) in a direction to which a portion of the microprisms (116) are sensitive, a fraction of that light will be directed upward and out of the waveguide (106) by those microprisms sensitive to light propagated in that direction. Controlling, switching or selectively activating the light sources (110)(112) results in different images (104) which are displayed and illuminated on the display (124) of the electronic device (100).

摘要: A wide-angle camera will collect wide-angle images. A portion of the wide-angle image (desired field of view) will be selected based on accelerometer readings. More particularly, to keep the desired field of view of a camera in an appropriate position, a correction is made to the tilt and roll of the desired field of view by using motion sensors to determine the horizon based on measuring the direction of gravity. A correction is also made to the yaw of the desired field of view using motion sensors to determine a forward facing position when the user is in motion. Because the desired field of view is corrected for variations resulting from user activity, any image collected from the camera is more likely to be pointed at a desired position.

摘要: A housing (100, 300, 600, 700) for storing and protecting items comprises a photoreactive material (106) that selectively and irreversibly changes colors upon exposure to activating radiation (124, 324); and an ultraviolet attenuation coating (102, 702) disposed over the photoreactive material (106). Radiation (124, 324) is selectively applied to the photoreactive material (106) to irreversibly change the color of the photoreactive material (106) and therefore the housing (100, 300, 600, 700). An optional patterned layer (332) may be disposed between the photoreactive material (106) and the selective application of radiation (124, 324), and a background color (108) may be included, to affect the visual presentation of the housing (100, 300, 600, 700).
