    摘要: An arc tube having a closed glass bulb having no broken-off portion, and a method of manufacturing the arc tube. A glass bulb is formed on a glass tube substantially at the middle. An electrode assembly is inserted into one end portion of the glass tube, and the one end portion is closed by pinch-sealing. A light emitting material is supplied into the glass bulb through the other end portion of the glass tube, another electrode assembly is inserted into the other end portion, and the latter is closed by pinch-sealing. Since the closed glass bulb has no broken-off portion, the arc tube is free from the difficulty that the distribution of light is adversely affected. Moreover, in manufacturing the arc tube of the invention, it is unnecessary to connect an exhaust tube to the glass tube. Therefore, the number of manufacturing steps is small, and the arc tube can be manufactured with ease.

Thus, insertion of the lead support 36 into the insulating sleeve 38 can easily be performed, and a dimension error of the insulating sleeve 38 can be absorbed. Since a bent portions 36a is provided for a portion of the lead support 36 into which the insulating sleeve is inserted, the insulating sleeve 38 and the lead support 36 can hermetically integrated with each other. Thus, rattle of the insulating sleeve 38 with respect to the lead support 36 can be prevented.

    摘要: An arc tube for a discharge lamp unit which emits light which is suitable in luminous flux, color temperature, and chromaticity. The arc tube is composed of a closed glass ball in which electrodes confront one another and which is sealingly charged with light emitting materials, namely, mercury and a metal iodide of NaI and ScI.sub.3 groups together with Xe inert gas. In accordance with the invention, the closed glass ball has a volume of 20 to 50 .mu.l, the density of the mercury in the closed glass ball is in a range of 2.times.10.sup.-2 to 4.times.10.sup.-2 mg/.mu.l, the density of the metal iodide is in a range of 6.times.10.sup.-3 to 12.times.10.sup.-3 mg/.mu.l, and the charged Xe gas pressure is 3 to 6 atm. These ranges make it possible to readily manufacture on a large scale arc tubes which are substantially equal in performance, being substantially uniform in tube voltage, luminous flux, color temperature and chromaticity.

    摘要: Lamp units for radiating a beam ahead of a vehicle in a light distribution pattern are housed in a lamp body. Illumination of the auxiliary lamp units is controlled based on driving conditions. Illumination control means extinguish light through dimming by gradually decreasing voltage applied to the light sources. When the applied voltage has dropped to a threshold value, the applied voltage is controlled to zero immediately. Compared to when the lamps remaining in an illuminated state are suddenly extinguished, a change in quantity of light is mild, and no uncertainty arises. Below a threshold value where the applied voltage gradually drops to the threshold value and a change may arise in the filament crystalline structure due to annealing at a transition temperature, the applied voltage approaches zero. Hence, the filament does not pass from the transition temperature while being rapidly cooled, thus avoiding filament crystalline structure change.

    摘要: An electric lamp assembly is disclosed which comprises a bulb unit including a filament, lead lines extending from the filament to the outside of the bulb unit and a hermetic seal portion, the lead lines extending through the hermetic seal portion; a bulb holder including a looped band portion which gripps the hermetic seal portion of the bulb unit having leading ends of the lead lines projected outward from the bulb holder, the bulb holder having foot portions each being formed with at least one opening; and a base assembly including a circular body part, a pair of conducting plate members having leading ends projected outward from respective slits formed in the body part and a plurality of supporting pins extending outward from the body part. The supporting pins are inserted into the openings of the foot portions of the bulb holder and welded to the foot portions to achieve a tight connection between the base assembly and the bulb holder. In order to facilitate mating between the leading ends of the lead wires and the leading ends of the conducting plate members, there is further employed a guide structure which guides the leading ends of the lead wires to give portions of the conducting plate members upon coupling of the bulb holder and the base assembly.
