Owing to the configuration, the creation of the workflow protocol is facilitated, chances for the utilization of the workflow system are expanded, and even users, such as beginners, who are slightly skilled in the ultrasonic diagnostic equipment and have experienced operations little, are permitted to master the operating method of the equipment promptly and to operate the equipment more easily.

In ultrasound diagnosis, a contrast echo technique on three-dimensional scanning is used with a contrast agent injected into an object. Before injecting the contrast agent and under the injection thereof, a blood vessel is continuously and securely targeted and depicted in displayed images. To realize this, a diagnostic ultrasound apparatus has means for acquiring an echo signal by scanning a three-dimensional region of an object with an ultrasound beam, means for producing three-dimensional image data based on the echo signal, means for displaying the three-dimensional image data, means for specifying, for example, from the echo signal, a timing at which injecting an ultrasound contrast agent into a region to be scanned of the object is started, and means for switching over at the specified timing display states of the three-dimensional image data to be displayed by the displaying means. By way of example, the switchovers are carried out such that data produced by projecting the three-dimensional image data on a minimum intensity projection technique are displayed before injecting the contrast agent, while data produced by projecting them on a maximum intensity projection technique are displayed after the start of injecting the contrast agent.

An ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus wherein an echo signal produced by scanning an ultrasonic beam at a three dimensional region is received and a two dimensional cross sectional image and three dimensional information based on the echo signal are obtained. A display is operable in a first mode in which only the cross sectional image is displayed, a second mode in which only the three dimensional information is displayed, and a third mode in which the three dimensional information overlapped with said cross sectional image is displayed. The three dimensional information at least includes a portion of the two dimensional cross sectional image, and preferably adjacent front side and rear side regions. In a preferred embodiment, the three dimensional information is color doppler information and the two dimensional cross sectional image is a gray scale image, and the areas of the cross sectional surfaces in which the color doppler information is obtained in a direction perpendicular to the front and back of the gray scale two dimensional cross sectional image become smaller as the distance from the gray scale two dimensional cross sectional image increases.
