An active matrix-type liquid crystal display is described having, for each pixel, a first electrode for of a storage capacitor that is connected to a scanning signal line. The liquid crystal display can be repaired for disconnections and short inferiorities occurring in a crossing portion of scanning signal line. A redundancy correcting line connects the capacitor electrodes of adjacent pixels. Also described is a double scanning signal line. The embodiments using the redundant connecting line and double scanning signal line are both repairable using laser if imperfections exist. Thus, while maintaining high aperture and contrast ratios, the disconnections and shorts in the crossing portion of wirings can be minimized.

A liquid crystal display having an improved display characteristic and having a ring-structured storage capacitor of an independent wiring type wherein disconnection and/or short circuit defects are reduced and a method for manufacturing the same. The liquid crystal display has one or a plurality of first electrodes within each pixel region, for forming one or a plurality of auxiliary capacitors in conjunction with the opposing pixel electrode. The first electrodes surround the pixel electrodes in a ring type structure, and are connected to each other between adjacent pixel portions by at least one wiring connecting portion. The first electrodes are driven independently from the scanning signal lines and the display signal lines. Forming the first electrodes of the capacitors as independent wiring type having a ring structure simplifies the manufacturing process and utilizes the maximum pixel area. Also, the degree of freedom concerning the selection of the driving pulse signal of the liquid crystal display is improved to reduce the R-C delay.

A method for manufacturing an electroluminescence display having a multi-layered substrate is disclosed. The multi-layered substrate includes a transparent electrode layer, a lower dielectric layer, a luminescent layer, an upper dielectric layer, a black layer and a rear electrode layer stacked successively on a substrate. The method requires coating an Al layer on the upper dielectric layer by placing the multi-layer coated substrate under a lower vacuum atmosphere containing a predetermined gas to form the black layer by a reaction between Al and the gas. Another Al layer is coated on the black layer under a higher vacuum atmosphere vacuum atomosphere and then baked. The baked Al layer is then etched to form the rear electrode layer.
