摘要： A flexible disk drive includes a magnetic head carriage, a linear motor for moving the carriage, and a carriage locking mechanism for locking the carriage in response to ejecting action of a flexible disk from the flexible disk drive. A lever unit has an ejecting lever and a locking lever. The ejecting lever is a part of an ejecting mechanism for ejecting the flexible disk from the flexible disk drive. The locking lever is disposed in the vicinity of the carriage, and locks the carriage from movement after the flexible disk is ejected from the flexible disk drive by the ejecting lever. The lever unit is made of non-magnetic material such as resin as one body.

A user can visually distinguish the high-density flexible disk drive from a normal-density dedicated flexible disk drive in which a color of a surface of a cover is identical with that of a surface of a body of a front panel. Thus, a large-capacity flexible disk can be correctly inserted into the high-density flexible disk drive without being erroneously inserted into the normal-density dedicated flexible disk drive.

摘要： The present invention aims at reducing the thickness of a floppy disk drive by minimizing a vertical movement of a floppy disk-retaining disk holder and reducing the height of a chassis. The disk holder is provided on both side surfaces of its rear end portion with support shafts, which are connected to the chassis so that the support shafts can be turned. The disk holder becomes pivotable around these support shafts as fulcrums, i.e., the front portion of the disk holder is turned vertically. The upper and lower magnetic heads are formed so that they can be engaged with and disengaged from the floppy disk in conjunction with a pivotal movement of the disk holder.

摘要： A high-density flexible disk capable of accessing a large-capacity flexible disk is provided with a large-capacity detecting switch. The large-capacity flexible disk has a case accommodating a magnetic disk medium, with the case being provided with a write protection hole and a single large-capacity identifier hole formed in a vicinity of the write protection hole for distinguishing the large-capacity flexible disk from a small-capacity and a medium-capacity flexible disk. The large-capacity detecting switch of the high-density flexible disk is provided at a position corresponding to the large-capacity identifier hole for detecting the large-capacity identifier hole when the large-capacity flexible disk is inserted into the high-density flexible disk drive. In a preferred embodiment, the large-capacity detecting switch is integrally formed in a single unit with a write control switch for detecting open and close states of the write protection hole.

摘要： A high-density flexible disk drive includes a main electromagnetic shielding plate and an auxiliary electromagnetic shielding plate. The main electromagnetic shielding plate serves as a cover member for the disk drive, and protects the whole upper surface of a large-capacity flexible disk received in the disk drive, a carriage and a linear motor from electromagnetic noise coming toward the flexible disk, the carriage and the linear motor from the upper side of the disk drive. The auxiliary electromagnetic shielding is attached to the main electromagnetic shielding plate and is smaller than the main electromagnetic shielding plate. The auxiliary electromagnetic shielding plate is arranged and located so as to protect or shield a magnetic head from electromagnetic noise coming toward the magnetic head from the upper side of the disk drive.
