    摘要： Client is connected to a selected program serving site via a communication network. The program serving site includes a database storing plural types of contents having various different characters and can supply a program file defining a reproducing sequence of a plurality of contents including those of different characters. The client includes a plurality of types of reproduction engines which are capable of reproducing the contents of the respective characters. The client receives a program file from the program serving site and also receives, from the database of the site, contents specified by the received program file. For reproduction of a desired program file, the client reproduces the individual contents in a reproducing sequence defined by the program file, using any one of the reproduction engines which corresponds to the type of each content to be reproduced. The program progression can be fast-forwarded or fast-reversed by fast-forwarding or fast-rewinding a currently-reproduced content. Contents meeting a search condition specified by the client are searched for and retrieved from the program serving site, and a new program file including the retrieved contents is created. The client can edit the program file, display information pertaining to the currently-reproduced content and select and purchase any desired content.

    摘要： The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for making sample contents from music contents whereby server and user are connected with each other via a communication network, whereby the server supplies non-sample regular contents including at least performance information of a music piece and sound information pertaining to the music piece and sample contents including a sample of part of the non-sample regular contents. Thereafter, the user receives the sample contents and test-listens to the received sample contents. When the user has decided on acquiring the non-sample regular contents and performed a predetermined operation to acquire the contents, the non-sample regular contents are distributed from the server to the user via the communication network, at which time unique additional information, such as client information and serial number, is attached to the individual distributed contents.

    摘要： The transmission of sample or regular content such as audio data from a server to a single client over a communication network for test-listening or purchase is disclosed. A user may choose a musical selection for test-listening. The sample content may be a selected representative portion extracted from the regular content. If the user decides to purchase the sampled musical selection, the musical selection is transmitted from the server to the client computer. Additional information supplied along with the regular content identifies the musical selection and provides security. However, this additional information is not supplied when sample content is transmitted. Profile information may be supplied along with regular or sample content. The content may be classified, organized, and selected on a channel-by-channel basis. Regular content may be supplied to the client by downloading, while sample content may be supplied to the client by streaming.

    摘要： Electronic musical apparatus (EMA), e.g. an electronic musical instrument, has a storage area for storing a unique ID; however, unique ID is empty in the storage area in an initial condition, e.g. condition at the time of shipment from a factory. Unique ID is issued by a Web server to the EMA when a user having acquired the EMA accesses a predetermined Web site having an ID issuing function, and the EMA stores the supplied unique ID in the storage area. The Web server determines whether or not any unique ID has already been issued to a given EMA having accessed the Web site, and, if not yet issued, the Web server may automatically issue a unique ID. Alternatively, the Web server may issue a unique ID when an ID issuance request has been received from a user of the EMA. User registration operation and unique ID issuance and registration operations may be carried out together as a set of operations.

    摘要： An electronic musical apparatus M1 transmits apparatus ID information and a common page access signal to a server computer SC. The server computer SC receives the signal and apparatus ID information. On the basis of the apparatus ID information, the server computer SC searches a user database 106a to identify the model of the electronic musical apparatus M1. The server computer SC also retrieves content data of a dedicated page for the identified model from a content data storage section 106b. The retrieved content data is created in accordance with display capabilities of a display unit 13 of the electronic musical apparatus M1. The server computer SC then transmits the retrieved content data to the electronic musical apparatus M1. As a result, the user of the electronic musical apparatus M1 can view the information contained in the whole dedicated page in colors on the display unit 13 without the need for scrolling. Thus, the present invention delivers legible information to various different types of electronic musical apparatuses having a display unit with different display capabilities.
