Abstract: According to an example aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method for determining the direction of movement of an object, the method comprising determining a cyclical motion of a cyclically moving part of the object by recording acceleration data of said cyclically moving part over a plurality of cycles using an accelerometer or inertial sensor attached to said cyclically moving part, integrating said acceleration data over at least one cycle of movement to determine a tilting of said cyclically moving part of the object relative to the horizontal plane, measuring an external magnetic field of said cyclically moving part of the object using a magnetometer to determine an orientation of said cyclically moving part of the object relative to the external magnetic field, determining the direction of movement of the object based on the tilting and the orientation of the cyclically moving part of the object.

The processing unit in the first wearable digital device is adapted to issue commands to be sent over said wireless link to said second digital device for instructing storage of captured pictorial information in the memory of said at least one second device.

Abstract: The invention relates to wearable electronic devices for monitoring physical activities of a person. The invention also concerns related methods and computer program products. According to the invention, a first sensor for measuring acceleration data and a second sensor for measuring heart rate data is provided. A data processing unit is configured to operate in a first mode when data is read from said first and second sensors and in a second mode when data is not read from at least one of said first and second sensors. In the first operating mode the processing unit cumulatively computes and updates a heart rate offset value based on at least one of the following data: a predetermined pulse of the person a rest, a predetermined fitness level of the person, a current recovery pulse of the person, and/or the cumulated acceleration data during the current activity. It also computes a current activity gain value based on acceleration data and heart beat rate data. The data processing unit is further configured to compute an estimate of the heart beat rate based on said offset value and said gain value during said second operating mode.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a system for determining a target variable to be measured in a mobile device. A first physical variable is measured with the aid of a first sensor and a second physical variable with the aid of a second sensor. The second physical variable is different to the first physical variable, or is measured using a different technique. The value of the target variable is calculated with the aid of the measurement of the first and second physical variables. An estimate for the target variable is determined with the aid of at least the measurement of the first physical variable. At least a first error estimate is determined, which depicts the accuracy of the measurement of the first physical variable. The estimate of the target variable is filtered using both the first error estimate and the measurement of the second physical variable.

The processing unit in the wearable sensor device is adapted, based on sensor signals received from said at least one sensor, to send commands over the wireless link to the second digital device to trigger, in response to said commands, storage of at least part of said continuously captured pictorial information.
