Abstract:
A system and method for calculating a time of arrival (TOA) of an electromagnetic signal is presented. A method receives a fast Fourier transform (FFT) signal that is a FFT of an original electromagnetic signal containing symbol data. The FFT signal is either multiplied or divided with a value to remove the symbol data. Removing the symbol data generates a perturbed data values representing perturbed signal with a perturbed covariance. The method calculates a perturbed covariance of the perturbed data values. After the perturbed covariance is calculated, the method at least partially corrects the perturbed covariance to produce a corrected covariance. The TOA of the original electromagnetic signal is calculated based, at least in part, on the perturbed covariance.
Abstract:
A system and method for communication that could be used in an identification friend or foe system. The method comprises generating a first message by a processor and controlling a beam steerer to deflect transmitted waves toward a first angle. The method further comprises transmitting the first message through an antenna in communication with the beam steerer toward the spatial angle. The method further comprises controlling the beam steerer to deflect waves received from the spatial angle. The method further comprises receiving a responsive wave at the antenna through the beam steerer at the spatial angle, the responsive wave including a second message responsive to the first message.
Abstract:
A miniature volumetric spherical geometry with multiple symmetric feeds is spaced from the surface of the vehicle or platform, with the antenna exhibiting both circular polarization that is orientation-independent or angle of arrival independent, while at the same time covering a broad band of frequencies from 243-318 MHz in one embodiment.
Abstract:
Wireless medium access in a communication network having a number of terminals is controlled by defining protocol message units for transmission by a given terminal which units correspond to operational states of at least one of the terminal and the medium. A number of time slots are allocated for transmission of packets from each terminal, and a number of contention opportunities are defined at the beginning of each time slot. Priority and backoff mechanisms are defined and applied at each terminal during the contention opportunities in the slots. Packets are then transmitted by the terminal within the slots while (1) minimizing the occurrence of empty slots at times when packets are available for transmission, and (2) minimizing the number of slots during which two or more packets are detected on the medium simultaneously at the terminal.
Abstract:
A wide bandwidth microwave balun utilizes frequency band splitting and two conventional baluns operating in a high frequency band and a low frequency band, which when combined offer a full bandwidth output, thus to offer wide bandwidth impedance matching and second-harmonic rejection.
Abstract:
A GPS antenna with anti-jam capabilities utilizes eight resonant loop radiator elements in a resonant exciter configuration to make available a primary and up to seven auxiliary antenna patterns usable with multi-pattern adaptive processing for anti-jam operation. Antennas as described enable desired radiation characteristics to be provided in a configuration of small size suitable for replacement of existing GPS aircraft antennas which lack anti-jam capabilities, in order to enable reliable GPS reception during airborne operations in the presence of interference or jamming. With enablement of multi-pattern adaptive processing, reduced-gain pattern notches or nulls may be employed to track and reduce the effect of incident signals which would otherwise jam or interfere with reception of GPS signals.
Abstract:
A coherent TOA system is provided for rapidly ascertaining the position of a pulse train emitter such as a radar. Techniques are provided to estimate the underlying repetition interval of the emitter and to do the TOA processing knowing which of the particular pulses is being detected at a collector, thus surmounting the effect of gaps in the received pulse stream. The subject system is preferable to conventional time-difference-of-arrival geolocation systems which require that each of the collecting platforms measure the same pulse from the emitter, and also to non-coherent TOA systems whose accuracy is less than that achievable with the subject coherent system for the same amount of data.
Abstract:
An integrated resistor includes a resistor body region and a resistor contact region that is aligned with the body region. Because the resistor includes an aligned body and contact, it often occupies a smaller area than prior integrated resistors having a similar resistance value. A method for forming such a resistor is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A classifier network has at least two distinct sets of refined data, wherein the first two sets of refined data are sets of numbers representing the features values data received from sensors or a manufactured part. Performing, via at least two distinct types of support vector machines using an associated feature selection process for each classifier independently in a first layer, anomaly detection on the manufactured part. Then, using the stored data including refined data of at least two different types of data transforms and performing, via at least a two distinct types of support vector machines in a second layer, an associated feature selection process for each classifier independently. Forming at least four distinct compound classifier types for anomaly detection on the part using the stored data or coefficients. The ensemble of second layer support vector machine outputs compare the results to determine the presence of an anomaly.
Abstract:
The present invention is a method for constructing a knowledgebase that can provide analysis and trend prediction of emerging technologies. Metadata and full text are gathered from collections of documents, which can include more than 10 million documents, and are used to build a heterogeneous network of elements related to themes such as technical emergence. Indicators and models are selected that identify network characteristics and trends of interest. The indicators can be derived by applying a combination of citation analyses, natural language processing, entity disambiguation, organization classification, and time series analyses. A metric can be used to evaluate indicator utility. A framework can be sued to generate and validate the indicators. The models can be derived using an automated process. Upon receipt of a query, the indicators and models can be used to apply a scoring process to extracted features to predict a future prominence of an entity.
