Abstract: A method and system for performing a movement of a service within a distributed system. In one embodiment, the method comprises determining one or more locations where the service is to be moved. The method further comprises for each of the one or more locations, computing a metric including a cross-cell cost (C-cost) or a data locality-cost (DL-cost) of the software service if a movement of the software service to a location was to occur, prior to performing the movement of the software service; and modelling a latency and availability of the system due to the movement of the software service to the location based on the metric. The method further comprises performing the movement of the service based on the modelled latency and availability of the system.

Abstract: A computer-assisted method for monitoring a first time base of a first communication device and a second time base of a second communication device. First, Cristian's algorithm is used to calculate time offset intervals between the time bases. Second, the maximally possible drift of the time offset is ascertained multiple times for two measurement steps. A minimally possible drift is ascertained from the upper limit of the time offset interval for the previous measurement step and the lower limit of the time offset interval for the subsequent measurement step. The upper and lower limits of a drift interval are calculated from the maximally and minimally possible drifts. Third, the lowest upper limit is defined as the upper limit of a resulting drift interval, and the highest lower limit is defined as the lower limit of the resulting drift interval with narrow limits for the relative drift.

The methods, systems, and apparatus for detection of proxied network connections perform analysis of network packets observed in real-time, near real-time, or stored packet captures and/or reassembled payloads to identify if a particular network connection includes traversal of one or more proxied connections or tunnels from a client to a proxy server before being routed to the eventual endpoint. The methods, systems, and apparatus for detection of proxied network connections also perform analysis to provide a risk score to inform a policy that may block, challenge, or allow the connection.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method for quantifying quality of several service classes provided by a link between first and second forwarding nodes in a wide area network (WAN). At a first forwarding node, the method computes and stores first and second path quality metric (PQM) values based on packets sent from the second forwarding node for the first and second service classes. The different service classes in some embodiments are associated with different quality of service (QoS) guarantees that the WAN offers to the packets. In some embodiments, the computed PQM value for each service class quantifies the QoS provided to packets processed through the service class. In some embodiments, the first forwarding node adjusts the first and second PQM values as it processes more packets associated with the first and second service classes. The first forwarding node also periodically forwards to the second forwarding node the first and second PQM values that it maintains for the first and second service classes. In some embodiments, the second forwarding node performs a similar set of operations to compute first and second PQM values for packets sent from the first forwarding node for the first and second service classes, and to provide these PQM values to the first forwarding node periodically.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for distributed routing data with latencies using relay nodes. The method includes automatically measuring one-way latencies between a plurality of nodes comprising a first node, a second node, and a relay node, producing a first signal associated with a proof of uptime for the relay node, producing a second signal associated with a proof of bandwidth for the relay node, after the proof of uptime and the proof of bandwidth of the relay node are validated, automatically identifying a relayed data routing path from the first node to the second node via the relay node based on the one-way latencies between the plurality of nodes, in response to a command to transfer data from the first node to the second node, and transferring data from the first node to the second node along the relayed data routing path.

Abstract: A method provides for receiving network traffic from a host having a host IP address and operating in a data center, and analyzing a malware tracker for IP addresses of hosts having been infected by a malware to yield an analysis. When the analysis indicates that the host IP address has been used to communicate with an external host infected by the malware to yield an indication, the method includes assigning a reputation score, based on the indication, to the host. The method can further include applying a conditional policy associated with using the host based on the reputation score. The reputation score can include a reduced reputation score from a previous reputation score for the host.

Abstract: The present application relates to egressing traffic from a public cloud network. An egress traffic manager configures routing at hosts and edge routers within the public cloud network. The egress traffic manager determines, for an edge router, a plurality of current border gateway protocol (BGP) sessions with external networks. The egress traffic manager configures a virtual router hosted on the edge router to route a portion of egress traffic to a selected one of the external networks via one of the BGP sessions. A host is configured to route the portion of egress traffic within the public cloud network to the edge router. An edge router configured to route, by the virtual router, the portion of egress traffic from the edge router to the selected one of the external networks.
