Abstract:
In a controlled deflection roll comprising a rotating shell forming the working roll periphery and a stationary beam extending lengthwise through the shell and spaced all around from the inner periphery of the shell, the space between the beam and the inner periphery of the shell, in the neighborhood of the operative plane, is divided into chambers by longitudinal seals and a number of transverse seals, the chambers have separate feed lines and each pair of adjacent chambers has a common transverse seal between them. Neighboring chambers are connected by a duct and non-return valves so that the transverse seal is always acted upon by the pressure of the higher-pressure chamber and pressed against the inner periphery of the shell. The chambers can be formed on the side of the beam facing the nip and also on the side remote from the nip and can also be individually filled with pressure fluid at different temperatures.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for applying a pattern to a continuously advancing web with a foam containing treatment medium. The pattern may be generated in the foam prior to or after the foam is transferred to the web. In one embodiment, the pattern is generated using two foam feeding devices arranged to form a patterned layer on a revolving element positioned over the web. The forward velocity of the web and the speed of rotation of the revolving element are controlled to obtain the desired pattern effect on the web.
Abstract:
In a method of continuously manufacturing sheets of material such as wood chip board in which a bed of material is fed from one conveyor belt to another conveyor bed which forms part of a continuous press, in order to avoid problems caused by the discontinuity at the gaps between the two belts, a web of paper is fed onto the conveyor belt and caused to travel with the conveyor belts, the bed of material then disposed on the paper, permitting the paper to bridge the gap between the conveyor belts without disturbance of the bed of material. The paper, which is then pressed and intimately bonded to the bed of material when making the sheet of material, is subsequently ground off.
Abstract:
A method for washing out thickening from printed textile material in web form, includes: applying a foam which contains, in its foam-forming liquid, particularly water, only a wetting agent, and optionally a foaming agent, to the printed side of the textile material; working the foam into the textile material; steaming the textile material; applying either foam which contains, in its foam forming liquid, particularly water, only a wetting agent and optionally, a foaming agent, or hot water to the backside of the textile material; and applying suction to the printed side of the textile material.
Abstract:
A metal strip cold-reduction mill having small work rolls with the rolls and strip flooded with liquid lubricant, has a tension reel on which the strip leaving the work rolls is coiled for tensioning the strip in the work rolls. A set of squeeze rolls between the work rolls and the reel removes the lubricant from the strip before the strip is coiled on the reel. At least one of the squeeze rolls is a controlled deflection roll.
Abstract:
A controllable variable deflection roll of the type applying the deflection controlling force between the fixed shaft and the rotative shell via piston and cylinder arrangements, has the arrangements positioned offset circumferentially around the shaft with respect to the direction in which the deflection controlling force is applied.
Abstract:
The line pressure distribution of a roller comprising a revolving hollow cylinder forming the working roller circumference, and a stationary cross head which extends lengthwise through the hollow cylinder and leaves space all around from the inside circumference of the hollow cylinder, the roller having longitudinal chambers which are divided off by longitudinal seals which are arranged between the cross head and the inside circumference of the hollow cylinder on both sides of the action plane of the roller and past which the inside circumference of the hollow cylinder slides, at least the chamber situated on the side of the roll gap adapted to be filled with fluid pressure medium, is controlled by establishing zones in at least one of the longitudinal chambers and controllably reducing the pressure in the zones as compared to the pressure prevailing in the longitudinal chamber.
Abstract:
A roll (20) comprises a rotating hollow roll (1) and a stationary crosspiece (5) which extends through the hollow roll (1) lengthwise and the ends of which protrude from the hollow roll (1) and are supported there. The crosspiece (5) comprises a support shoe (10) which is closed against a supporting part (6) of the crosspiece (5) except for feedlines, which is held at the crosspiece (5) in the circumferential direction but is movably guided in the action plane (9) of the roll (20) against the inside circumference (4) of the hollow roll (1) and can be pressed against the inside circumference (4) of the hollow roll (1) under the pressure of the pressure liquid. On the side facing the inside circumference (4) of the hollow roll (1), the support shoe (10) carries longitudinal seals (7) and guiding surfaces (12) which divide off a longitudinal chamber (8) for receiving pressure liquid generating the line pressure, and leakage chambers (15) for receiving leakage liquid.
