摘要:
A light source for a photo-reactive curing apparatus is provided, which includes a plurality of light source elements or modules, such as, UV or visible LEDs or LED arrays, arranged to provide a beam profile comprising irradiation zones separated by a dark zone. Photo-polymerization occurs during periods of irradiation and dark polymerization occurs during dark intervals between irradiation. The relative positioning or spacing of light source elements or modules is set to provide an exposure profile with a dark interval which matches the required dark reaction interval for optimal curing efficiency. In modular or adjustable light sources, the spacing is adjustable dependent on process parameters. For processes such as inkjet printing, the beam profile may be better matched to the ink chemistry, so as to control the polymerization reaction to meet a required process speed for single pass or multiple pass applications.

A modular LED array light source comprises an assembly of a plurality of solid-state LED array modules. Modules are abutted to provide a large area, high intensity and high-density array that provides substantially uniform irradiance. Preferably, in each module, a linear or rectangular array of groups of LED is provided in which the density of LED die in the array is higher at ends or edges of the modules abutting other modules, to provide improved uniformity of irradiance over the illuminated area between modules. Particular arrangements of clusters of LEDs are provided that reduce or overcome the discontinuity or dip in irradiance due to edge or wall effects caused by the spacing of LED die from edges of the substrate/packaging of each module. These arrangements are advantageous for hermetically sealed LED array modules, for example, which require a minimum wall thickness for an effective seal.

An LED (Light Emitting Device) light source (100), a pulse controller or pulse control module (130) for an LED light source, and a method are provided, for controlling relative timing and phase of LED light pulse generation and operation of peripheral devices, relative to a common timing reference. A system is provided comprising a pulse controller (130) for controlling synchronization of multiple LEDs (144) and/or other devices and peripherals (164), relative to a common timing reference. The pulse controller (130) comprises a processor (131) that programmatically executes a time based sequence of digital control signals (141) from received inputs (121) indicative of a pulse generation sequence. The pulse controller provides for multiple pulse trains where improved control of relative timing of several events is required, such as for control of multiple high intensity LED light sources and synchronized control of peripheral devices such as detectors, for applications, such as, fluorescence microscopy and other spectroscopic applications.

A system, method, and portable or mobile controller are provided for network management of functions such as monitoring, control, programming, and calibration of a plurality of (UV) light sources, for photo-reactive and photo-curing applications. Beneficially, a reliable and controlled closed-loop feedback network is provided in which a dose of light, or exposure profile, for e.g. spot curing, can be programmed into a light source unit to perform a highly repeatable operation across a single or multiple work stations. The system is scalable up to 1000's of workstations.

An illumination system comprising a laser light source and a wavelength conversion module for generating high brightness illumination by photoluminescence. The wavelength conversion module comprises an optical element comprising a wavelength conversion medium, set in a mounting for thermal dissipation, and an optical concentrator. The shape of the optical element and its reflective surfaces provides improved light extraction at the converted wavelength, and allows for more effective cooling. It provides a compact light source with a configuration suitable for applications that require high brightness and narrow bandwidth illumination at a selected wavelength, e.g. for fluorescence microscopy, or other applications requiring étendue-limited optical fiber coupling. The system, which preferably uses a solid state laser diode, provides an alternative to conventional arc lamps, and addresses limitations of other available solid state LED light sources to provide high brightness at some wavelengths, particularly in the 580nm to 630nm range.
