For piecing a thread in an open-end spinning apparatus having a fibre collection surface, a sliver is supplied to the clothing of an opening cylinder and opened thereby into fibres and is supplied in this form to the fibre collection surface. There, the fibres are incorporated into the end of a returned thread which is then drawn off continuously. During this, the leading end of the sliver, forming a tuft, is supplied for piecing to the opening cylinder, at a penetration depth which is greater than the penetration depth after piecing, whereas piecing is carried out in a manner conventional per se, matched to a reduction in the penetration depth. This reduction in the penetration depth is carried out suddenly in order to counter thick points in the joint. To carry out the process, a penetration depth alteration apparatus is provided which is in controlled connection with a control apparatus.

To piece with a spinning device having a pneumatic twisting unit, a yarn end is back-fed from an output side, through the twisting unit, to drawing equipment, and then inserted laterally into a pair of drawing unit output rollers, from where it is drawn off through the twisting unit in the form of a continuous yarn with a rove being incorporated into it. During the back-feeding of the yarn end to the twisting unit input side, the yarn end is conveyed to a grasping device located at the side of the drawing equipment. The grasping device pulls the yarn end for subsequent insertion into the pair of output rollers past such rollers until such end is alongside the drawing equipment. A yarn presenting device is provided to convey to the grasping device the yarn end leaving the twisting unit input side. The yarn presenting device includes a compressed air nozzle oriented essentially parallel to the nip of the pair of output rollers, the outlet of which is located on a side of the twisting unit across from the grasping device and which outlet is also oriented towards the grasping device to convey the yarn end thereto.

Fiber material to be spun is presented to drafting equipment in the form of a fiber sliver and is subjected to pre-stretching and main stretching in such drafting equipment. While being stretched, the fiber sliver is gathered together to a minimum width which amounts to at least 1.5 times the diameter of a torsion device to be used with the sliver. After being thus gathered together, the fiber sliver is not further gathered together before having torsion imparted thereto while such diameter is maintained. The width of a condenser situated upstream from the main stretching field amounts here to at least 1.5 times the diameter of a pneumatic torsion device situated downstream from such field. The injector component and torsion component of such torsion device are of identical diameter, from their intake opening to their outlet opening. In this way, hairy and soft yarns, similar to ring yarn, are produced.

They are provided with a contact surface 21 adapted to the circumferential contour of the fiber-removing roll and are held on the contour by screws screwed into pegs 4. The teeth are thus attached securely and can be replaced easily. In order to provide the teeth with a secure hold, independently of manufacturing tolerances, the contact surface is reduced to two contact shoulders 22, 23 spaced at a distance from each other.

The invention relates to an open-end rotor-spinning device with a rotor shaft which is mounted and driven in the wedge-shaped gap between supporting disks and to the free end of which is assigned an axial bearing. A simplified mounting, which also allows the supporting disks to be removed and exchanged while the machine is in operation, is provided because the rotor shaft (1) is mounted at two bearing points, of which one is formed by supporting disks (2, 3) arranged in the vicinity of the spinning rotor (10) and the second is a bearing (5) which absorbs axial and radial forces and which receives the free end (11) of the rotor shaft (1). An increase in the operating speed of the spinning rotor (10) without an increase in the running speed of the drive means (6) is achieved as a result of a reduction of the diameter of the rotor shaft (1) in the region of the drive means.

In a spinning device of the type equipped with a torsion element having an injector nozzle and a torsion nozzle which are separated from each other during spinning by a gap which is open to the atmosphere, yarn is threaded for piecing into such torsion element, which is brought into a threading position. Threading is effected with the assistance of negative pressure which is applied to the torsion element from the side thereof which constitutes its inlet side during normal spinning. The gap between the injector and torsion nozzles is sealed against the atmosphere before threading of the yarn. Thereafter, and at the latest at the beginning of the withdrawal of the pieced yarn, the gap is opened once more. A sealing device, which may assume various alternative constructions, is provided to carry out the process by sealing the gap between the injector nozzle and the torsion nozzle during the threading phase.

An open-end spinning process in which the fiber sliver is separated into single fibers and in which the separated fiber material is brought by an air stream to a collecting surface from which it is drawn off while being twisted. According to the instant invention the fiber material is deposited on a collecting surface moving in the direction of thread draw-off, is then twisted and is continuously drawn off said collecting surface in form of a thread. The single fibers are fed upon the collecting surface in the direction of said collecting surface's movement, whereby an alignment of the fibers on the collecting surface takes place. The doubling process is separated from the spinning process as the fiber material is bundled and/or doubled on the collecting surface into a fiber sliver with the fiber mass required for the desired thread. The twisting process takes place independently of the collecting surface by means of a known twisting mechanism.

The invention concerns an open-end spinning device with a release mechanism and two friction rollers in close proximity of each other, said friction rollers being driven in the same direction, wherein fibers are twisted together into a thread within the notch zone formed by said friction rollers, and furthermore concerns a thread draw-off device. According to the invention, the fibers are fed into the notch via a collecting surface moving parallel to the thread forming line. The collecting surface is located on the periphery of a disk-like cylinder, the rotational axis of said cylinder being located in a plane perpendicular to the notch. In a variant, the collecting surface is located on the surface of a disk or within a rotor in the form of an inner cone.
